A small city 10 miles outside Fayetteville, Elkins is a rural community set in the Ozark Mountains. The trails loop around the lake and lead into the mountains in the region, with vistas and lookout areas that provide magnificent views of the area. Outdoorspeople find the amount of hiking and nature in Elkins to be a significant draw to the area. For some recreation close to home, head to Bunch Park, which is located on the White River, which feeds Lake Sequoyah. The park has a walking trail that loops around the park. Residents can also enjoy sports courts and a playground.
U.S. Route 16 is the central route through Elkins and leads directly into Fayetteville. It's an easy drive into the city, thanks to Route 16, so residents retain easy access to the city while maintaining a rural sense of living. There isn't any public transportation in Elkins, so having a car is necessary for getting around.
