Erwin Township is a small town with cutting-edge companies

Erwin Township is in upstate New York, home to the Gang Mills and Painted Post communities. These towns and many of their inhabitants are here because of the neighboring city of Corning , home to Corning Incorporated. "Corning is the hub. It's what brought us here. If you don't know what Corning is, look at your phone screen," says broker Dan Mower, leader of the Mower McLennan Team with Keller Williams South Tier & Finger Lakes, the Corning area's top-selling group. From Pyrex to Gorilla Glass phone screens, Corning Incorporated has been responsible for many glass-engineering milestones. Their headquarters is just a few minutes away in downtown Corning, and their largest campus, Sullivan Park, is in Erwin Township.

Midcentury suburban homes and large early-1900s builds

Erwin Township and other neighboring areas share in Corning's success. "This is a high-end area with nice communities and a lot of bigger homes," Mower says. "But everything around Corning is pretty nice." Streetscapes within the township vary from wooded suburban drives in Gang Mills to a village grid in Painted Post to country lanes in the surrounding Appalachian Mountains. "You can get everything from beautiful, old Victorian homes in Painted Post to newer construction and even country homes with land," Mower says. Prices range from $35,000 to $200,000 for small cottages, ranch-style homes and split-level homes. Early-1900s American Foursquares, Cape Cods and larger ranch-style homes range from $200,000 to $400,000. Large colonial-style homes, Tudor residences, expansive contemporary Craftsman houses and spacious country homes with acreage can cost $400,000 to $675,000.

Corning Incorporated's Sullivan Park campus is in town

There are only a few miles between Erwin and downtown Corning, home to Corning Incorporated. Since 1851, Corning's glass makers, chemists and engineers have been responsible for almost every notable glass invention, from the casing for Edison's light bulb in the late 1800s and Pyrex in the early 1900s to fiberoptic cable in the 1970s and Gorilla Glass phone screens in the 2000s. Most of these innovations are being made at the Sullivan Park campus in Erwin Township. Siemens Energy is also a prominent corporate employer in town, and Guthrie Corning Hospital is about 10 miles east.
