North Ridge is surrounded by wide-open landscape and agriculture
Resting next to the wild open of Daley Ranch and just south of a beautiful semi-private golf club, North Ridge is a sparsely developed haven for nature lovers seeking a quality home. In North Ridge, there's a sense of a community embracing its native terrain. You’ll see entire ridges where local growers are nurturing plants and trees in a rainbow of colors and textures. Christmas tree farms and other agricultural plots span the valley, and some residents ride horses on private trails.
Mountain views and outdoor living space abound in North Ridge homes
Many homes here are tucked along winding hilly roads, often surrounded by cypress, poplar and blossoms. Jeff Kane, President of Coldwell Banker Commercial West, who has built and sold thousands of homes in the area, says, “People want to live in North Ridge because you’re not on top of your neighbor and you can find larger lots. There are also a lot of impressive boulders throughout the landscape which can give a lot of these homes a really dramatic appeal.” On the upward slope of the neighborhood, residences are remarkably tranquil; sometimes perched behind tree hedging or down private drives lined with palms. Homes on Sky Drive with extensive balconies offer morning-coffee views of undulating ridges and peaks. Stunning custom builds gather on large hillside lots, in colors that blend with the sloping greenery.
You’ll also see more modest, shingle-shake '60s homes along with stucco Baja-style homes with meticulous landscaping. Mid-century modern and '60s Revival homes feature solar roof panels and broad decking or porches. Larger ranch-style homes with shingle-shake roof panels are perched on private clifftop lots, as are newer Spanish-style mansions. Immense Italian-villa style homes grace scenic hillsides, and some mansions include massive decks that hang out over the incline. Kane says, “While most 1,500-square-foot to 2,200-square-foot homes in North Ridge range between $900,000 and $1.8 million, some of your custom builds can ask anywhere between $2.5 million and $4 million.”
B- or B-minus-rated schools and a strong high school athletic program
Public school students can attend Reidy Creek Elementary School, backed by the undeveloped Reidy Canyon, and move on to Rincon Middle School, which earns a B-minus grade from Niche. Students then head to Escondido High, which boasts a strong athletic program and earns a B grade from Niche.
Wine tastings and Boulder Oaks Golf Club, a semi-private course
For a casual Saturday tasting under shady oaks, head to Keys Creek Winery in east North Ridge. Or, if you prefer acres of elegance with a French-style chateau, Belle Marie Winery is just a couple miles west. Golfers can play at the semi-private Boulder Oaks Golf Club in Hidden Meadows and kick back at the Side Yard Public House for burgers and brews.
Driving is required to get to grocers and North Broadway restaurants
Outside the golf course and North Ridge, you’ll need to drive into nearby North Broadway to dine at Chicken Lisa’s, or head over to Cenote Grill in Country Club for upscale Mexican specialties in a fancy atmosphere.
North Ridge residents enjoy so much serenity and scenery, no one really minds the approximately 8-mile drive to CVS or the roughly 10-mile drive to Von’s just south of North Ridge. After all, you get to soak up the countryside heading there and back along North Broadway. Or, you could opt to pick up groceries and meals at the quaint Meadows Deli Market in Hidden Meadows.
Nearby freeways offer convenience without the accompanying noise
Says Kane, “North Ridge gives you that feeling of a rural community with dramatic views from homes high on hills, while you’re right near major freeways. You don’t hear the freeways; it’s just a breeze to get to them in minutes, without the traffic you experience heading in and out of other Escondido areas.” From its valley to its clifftops, North Ridge residents enjoy a generous slice of Escondido grandeur, within an easy drive of essentials and entertainment.
