Western Eugene suburb immersed in nature
Bethel’s subdivisions sit west of downtown Eugene, with farmland separating the community from Eugene’s airport and industrial area. "Everyone that lives in Bethel loves it over there. It's on the edge of rural communities, so locals enjoy a mix of rural and city dynamics," says Realtor Tom Richards of self-owned Tom Richards Real Estate, who has sold homes across Eugene since 1992. While many parks dot the neighborhood’s landscape, a regional attraction, Fern Ridge Reservoir, is located just to the west.
Bethel’s abundance of parks and bike paths
Fern Ridge Reservoir’s 9,000 acres lies roughly 12 miles west of Bethel. Recreation on and around the lake include water skiing, swimming and fishing. On the neighborhood’s north side, trails weave along fishing ponds around Golden Gardens Park’s over 220 acres. The park’s trail branches off and connects to Jessen Path, a multiuse trail leading to Bethel’s shared-use and designated bike lanes.
Echo Hollow Park has a football field, primarily used for youth athletics, and a public pool. Paved paths loop around Irwin Park’s almost 8 acres, where a baseball field sits adjacent to a half basketball court and playground. Bethel Community Park spans 33 acres, with four baseball fields known as the Willamette Valley Babe Ruth complex. The playground and sand play area are near the skate park, which has moderate to steep slopes. Petersen Barn Community Center has a baseball field, playground and open field where events are held, such as the “We are Bethel Celebration” in June, where the green space is lined with local vendors and carnival games.

Manufactured, midcentury and Craftsman homes
Midcentury ranch-style homes and manufactured homes dot communities established between the 1950s and 1970s. Ranch-style homes cost between $300,000 and $520,000. Manufactured home properties are leased monthly, including the 55-and-up communities of Lakewood Vista and SongBrook. Depending on whether these communities have amenities such as pools and fitness centers, homes list between $30,000 and $230,000. Craftsman houses were built in cul-de-sacs after 2000 and are listed from $425,000 to $645,000.

Bethel schools and farm field trips
Bethel School District serves the neighborhood. “They’ve invested a lot of money into the schools, which increased taxes, but the Bethel area is still less expensive than South Eugene,” says Sally Jo Wickham, a broker with Team Wickham with over 20 years of experience. Clear Lake Elementary gets a C grade from Niche, Shasta Middle schools earns a C-plus and Willamette High School receives a B. “Bethel has a program that is designed more toward the country life. For instance, Kalapuya High School is based more on farm and husbandry than the technical trades,” Wickham says. High school students are the ones in charge of leading the third and fourth-grade field trips to Bethel Farm, a district-wide initiative where students meet farm animals, help collect crops and learn concepts such as eating locally.

Travels via highway, airplane and Beltline Path
Oregon Route 99—or Highway 99—runs along the neighborhood’s east side, connecting the community with Eugene Airport in the north and downtown Eugene in the south, which are both about a 6-mile drive both ways. The Beltline Path, a paved bike lane, runs parallel to Randy Papé Beltline, a local north- and south-bound thoroughfare. Lane Transit District (LTD) serves the neighborhood with bus stops along Royal Avenue and Barger Drive. Two hospitals are located nearby in Springfield, including PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center, about 10 miles west, and McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center, roughly 13 miles away.
Echo Hollow Plaza shops and local dining
Daynight Donuts sells biscuits and gravy in addition to its various donuts 24 hours a day. Box stores, including Big Lots and Rite Aid, line Echo Hollow Plaza. Abby’s Legendary Pizza and Lee’s Thai Food are nearby for fast-casual dining. WinCo Foods stands alone, and Albertsons anchors Royal West Center’s shopping plaza, where locally owned El Charro Mexican Restaurant & Bar serves classic Mexican cuisine. The Embers and Barger Grill & Taphouse are both located nearby.
Embers Bar and Grill on Highway 99 is the go to spot for Bethel locals.
