Original Eugene Craftsman homes with modern updates
Original Craftsman bungalows built throughout the 1920s and 1930s and their small front patios, anchored by chiseled columns, look out onto Jefferson Westside’s neatly gridded streets. Historic homes are well-maintained, often featuring remodeled kitchens and bathrooms, among other updates, and cost between $350,000 and $500,000. “A lot of people expect a vintage home. [The neighborhood] is at the center of Eugene, and it grew out of there” Haggard says. “Lots of the homes down there have been owned by the same family for years and years,” she says. Though roughly 77% of Jefferson Westside residents rent their homes, three condominium complexes on the eastern side of the neighborhood offer more ownership options. Studios can cost between $200,000 and $300,000, while two-bedroom units can fetch between $600,000 and $650,000.Lane County Fair hosted in Jefferson Westside
The Lane Events Center anchors the neighborhood. Every summer, it hosts the Lane County Fair, which includes carnival rides, a Ferris wheel, horse shows, livestock competitions and live music.Neighborhood parks connected by popular Eugene bike trails
Jefferson Westside’s gridded streets occasionally give way to several neighborhood parks, which are linked together through various bike paths and lanes. Monroe Park’s 2.5 acres take up an entire city block with a playground, sand pit and a merry-go-round. “It’s bordered by houses on all sides that face the green space, and neighbors are always hanging out, spending time together there,” says Robin Myers, the curator of collections at Lane County History Museum. A cheery mural of a hummingbird brightens up Charnel Mulligan Park, which underwent a significant renovation in 2017, while dogs can socialize, leash-free, in Jefferson Park’s designated dog area a few blocks away. The Fern Ridge Trail—a roughly 7-mile, multi-use trail known for birdwatching—winds through the neighborhood alongside Amazon Creek, eventually dropping off in west Eugene’s wetlands. Just north of the neighborhood, the Ruth Bascom Bike Path is popular among cyclists for its glimmering views of the Willamette River eclipsed by lush foliage.Multiple school zones in Jefferson Westside

Seventh Avenue connects to downtown and Interstate 5
Seventh Avenue, one of Eugene’s main thoroughfares, borders Jefferson Westside on the north and continues east toward downtown. The aquatic mural on the side of Fisherman’s Market faces the avenue, while Sweet Life Patisserie sits a few hundred feet back. The avenue eventually merges with Sixth Avenue to become Oregon state Route 99, which shares miles of roadway throughout the state with Interstate 5. The neighborhood’s eastern border—Willamette Street—also connects it to downtown. Its western border, Chambers Street, runs north to south throughout the entire city. Additionally, residents can catch several Lane Transit District bus routes throughout the neighborhood.Pop culture-approved bakeries and seafood spots
Several popular eateries line Seventh Avenue, one of the main thoroughfares of the neighborhood. Fisherman’s Market—owned and operated by a former Alaskan commercial fisherman—was featured on “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” for its seafood menu, which includes 12 varieties of fish and chips, Cajun crab boils and Cajun crawfish pie. Sweet Life Patisserie has established itself as a neighborhood staple for its intricate cakes, tortes, tarts and other French and American recipes made from scratch. The bakery also serves teas and lattes, which can be enjoyed alongside quiche and fresh breakfast pastries. New Frontier Market procures organic produce, raw foods as well as incense and pure essential oils, while Albertsons offers more essentials.
