Commercial suburb along Diamond Avenue

Pigeon Creek hugs the northern border of this Evansville suburb, flowing into the Ohio River that settles just south of “River City”—Evansville's nickname. The community of Diamond-Stringtown, is desirable for its entry-level housing, easy access to the Town Center North shopping center, and proximity to downtown. “Evansville is very affordable compared to many places in the U.S.,” says Kendra Bisesi, Realtor with Angel Team Realty. Whether grabbing a quick snack at Everest Market or a home-style meal from Libby & Mom’s, living along Diamond Avenue has its perks. Landmarks, like Garvin Park—for a lakeside stroll —and the Merry Go Round Restaurant —a family-owned eatery open for over 70 years—both contribute to this community's casual ambiance. And with U.S. Route 41 just east, daily commutes into downtown are accessible within a 3-mile or 10-minute drive. “Our location also makes traveling to major cities like Indianapolis, Louisville, Nashville or St. Louis a breeze,” adds Bisesi, who has been selling in Evansville for over three years.

Cape Cods and traditional ramblers

The real estate market in Diamond-Stringtown attracts entry-level buyers with homes that tend to be more affordable than the average property in the US and the Evansville Metro Area. “The low cost of living and affordability attracts prospective buyers from out of state moving into the area,” says Kara Hinshaw, Broker at Key Associates Signature Realty. “Lower taxes and larger land are common findings.” With a median sales price of $130,000, prices range from $100,000s for a two-bedroom Cape Cod to $200,000 for a three-bedroom brick-facade bi-level home. Most homes were constructed in the 1940s, resulting in Cape Cods and ramblers, which were common of the era. Bungalows and bi-level options are also available. Homes often feature detached garages, backyard fencing and are fronted by small lawns with minimal shrubbery. Streets are lined with paved sidewalks for navigating throughout the community.
