Melody Hill
Homes from the mid-20th century to early 2000s have a wide price range
Dense trees fill Melody Hill's rolling landscape, broken up by grassy lawns and homes. There are a mix of properties from the mid to late 20th century and ones built in the early 2000s, many featuring wide driveways that lead to one- and two-car garages. Ranch styles and split levels comprise much of the community, although New Traditional houses with colonial influences are common farther south. Prices generally fall between $150,000 and $350,000, although larger properties have sold for $415,000 to $475,000. “As far as pricing goes, a lot of these properties are appreciating much faster than the local trend in Vanderburgh County,” Capshaw says.According to FEMA, the area has a relatively high risk of tornadoes.
Evansville schools include the highly praised Oak Hill Elementary School
Melody Hill is part of the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation, which offers school choice. Both Oak Hill Elementary School and North Junior High School receive a B-plus. Oak Hill has received many accolades since it opened, including being named a Four-Star School by the state of Indiana for the 2016-2017 school year and named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 2024. North High School earns an A-minus and partners with the University of Southern Indiana and Ivy Tech Community College to offer dual credit courses.Melody Hill is between two highways, next to Evansville Regional Airport
Most residents rely on cars to get around, although the Metropolitan Evansville Transit System has stops along Lynch Road. The neighborhood is located between U.S. Route 41 and Interstate 69, making it easy for residents to head into the heart of Evansville or nearby major cities like Louisville, Kentucky, about 110 miles away. The community is next to the Evansville Regional Airport, which offers direct flights to eight cities across the U.S. “There’s a lot of business travel,” says Capshaw, citing travel nurses coming in to work at Deaconess Hospital as an example.Restaurants, shops and the Eastland Mall are along Green River Road
There are a handful of restaurants in the area, including the Twisted Tomato Pizza Company, which has 15 specialty pizzas and an arcade. Otherwise, residents head into Evansville for dining. There are several chains along Green River Road, as well as locally owned eateries like Kabob Xpress, which serves Mediterranean food. Downtown Evansville has restaurants like BRU Burger Bar. The closest grocery store is Schnucks, although people can pick up household essentials at the Dollar General in Melody Hill. Eastland Mall is about 5 miles away, with over 100 shopping, dining and entertainment options. Target, Walmart and Home Depot are all about a 6-mile drive.Evansville Sports Complex is one recreation option nearby
Goebel and Deaconess Sports Parks make up the Evansville Sports Complex, which has 18 baseball, softball, soccer, lacrosse and ultimate frisbee fields. Less than 1 mile away, the kayak launch near Green River Road lets out onto Pigeon Creek, where anglers can catch catfish, bass and drum. The Elite Air Trampoline Park, about 3 miles away, is another option for people trying to release some energy. There are more than trampolines – the facility has an obstacle course, warp walls and airbags.
