Plaza Park is a blend of retailers and homes near the interstate

Plaza Park is an Evansville community that blends residential and retail spaces near Interstate 69. Trees shade homes dating back to the mid-20th century, creating a sense of separation from major stores like Target and T.J. Maxx in the northern part of the neighborhood. More stores, such as Kohl’s and Michaels, are just across Lloyd Expressway, one of the city’s main thoroughfares. Businesses near the busy highways buffer residents from road noise. Downtown Evansville is about 6 miles away. Plaza Park has a CAP Index Crime Score of 2 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.

Plaza Drive is a sought-after street with a mix of home styles

Large oak trees grow on manicured lawns, which are often decorated with neat rows of shrubbery and flowering bushes. Wide driveways lead to multicar garages. “Plaza Drive, in particular, is very sought-after,” says Realtor Nikki Davis with F.C. Tucker Emge. “This street has a mix of old and new homes in a mix of styles. Most of the old homes have been renovated, while others have been torn down and the land used to build new.” Ranch styles and split-levels are across the street from New Traditional homes and Colonial Revivals. Prices for a single-family house can range from $150,000 to $575,000, increasing with size. Some condos are in the neighborhood, with a two-bedroom unit typically costing $150,000 to $215,000.

Interstate 69 adds convenience to this car-dependent community

Most residents rely on cars to get around, although the Metropolitan Evansville Transit System manages a bus route in the area. Interstate 69 borders the neighborhood, which Davis says offers the “convenience of being able to hop on the bypass.” It leads about 8 miles south to the Kentucky state border and about 160 miles north to Indianapolis. Evansville Regional Airport is about a 10-mile drive and offers nonstop flights to eight destinations. Deaconess Gateway Hospital is about 1 mile away.
