Mountaintop homes outside Denver
Evergreen is not the typical rural, suburban Denver community — it’s a mountain town tied to its wide spread views of the Evergreen and Genesee mountains, lush meadows, pond hockey and cozy nights by the fire. Appropriately named after the abundance of evergreen trees in this region, this city is less than 30 miles from Denver, about a 45-minute drive depending on traffic and weather conditions. The elevation of Evergreen is roughly 7,220 feet and can range to more than 9,000 feet in height. “You’re immersed in nature,” says Shad Phillips, a Realtor with Evergreen Co. He adds that Evergreen is full of wildlife like bears, bald eagles, foxes and elks. “There are herds of elks. It’s not uncommon to see them in your yard.”

The park has views and activities centered around the 65-acre Evergreen Lake, where fishing for rainbow and brown trout is common for most of the year. Plus, the lake is open for boating and swimming in the summer. Dedisse Park is also home to the Evergreen Golf Course. Nearby Maxwell Falls features a 76-foot drop into the canyon below, and peek viewing is in the spring after the snow runoff. Evergreen Mountain, located in the southwest part of the city, has hiking trails that lead to viewpoints at its 8,536-foot peak. Skiing is also popular in Evergreen, with spots like Echo Mountain 15 miles away.
