Restful pace along the southern border
Just east of the northern U.S.-Mexico border sits the quiet, rural farming community of Fabens, Texas. Roughly 35 miles south of El Paso, residents can make the drive to the city to be a part of the action, though for most who call Fabens home, the slower-paced lifestyle is what attracted them to the area in the first place.
“It’s a small, rural farming community, so there’s a lot of open land,” says lifelong area resident, Silas Baca, a Realtor with eXp Realty LLC. “While you’ll have to travel to El Paso for nightlife or much entertainment, there are plenty of mom-and-pop restaurants and a strong sense of community here.”

Finding a home in Fabens
Buyers can find traditional ranch-style, adobe-style, and manufactured homes here. “There isn’t a lot of new construction happening, and most of the homes are older,” Baca says, with most being built in the mid to late 20th century. “Properties are more affordable in Fabens than many other areas near El Paso, which draws buyers to the area,” Baca says. “You can find a lot of homes for under $150,000,” and those with larger floor plans and acreage can range up to $400,000.
