Living in “The City That Soars”
“The City That Soars:” a cheeky motto for a place called Falcon Heights, Minnesota, to have. But with one of the largest state fairs in the U.S., a bustling university campus and one-of-a-kind designer homes, life in Falcon Heights can’t help but feel like an elevated experience. “I like the small-town feel, but just being minutes away from large-city amenities in both Saint Paul and Minneapolis,” says Falcon Heights Assistant to the City Administrator Kelly Nelson.

The State Fair, Minnesota’s crown jewel
Directly east of the university is the 322-acre Minnesota State Fairgrounds. While the venue hosts over 200 entertaining events year-round — from motor shows to livestock expos — it’s most crowded during the Minnesota State Fair, the second-largest state fair in the country. “It’s a 12-day-long event that draws over 2 million people to the area,” Nelson says. Falcon Heights also has other spots where locals can enjoy the outdoors outside Fair season, including Community Park, which features several sports facilities, a community garden and an outdoor ice rink during the colder months. Residents also have access to the U of M Les Bolstad Golf Course, a public 18-hole course that offers daily and seasonal green passes.
