Farley’s quiet community contrasts Highway 62’s busy retail corridor

On the east side of Paducah, vehicles buzz along Highway 62, and locals bustle between the shops and restaurants at Paducah City Center. Outside the commercial corridor, the community of Farley offers an entirely different energy. Busy streets give way to tranquil neighborhoods that feel like living in the country. Lots are spacious, and lush trees shade well-kept homes with longtime owners. "Many residents have grown up here," says Laura Petrie, a Realtor with Elite Realty and a Paducah resident. "The schools are excellent, and the houses are more affordable compared to some surrounding neighborhoods."

Homes from the 1950s to today line country-style streets

Residential streets are long and narrow, mimicking the look of country roads. Mature trees cover spacious lawns with shade in the summer and colorful leaves in the fall. Bungalow, Craftsman and ranch-style homes are the community's predominant architectural styles. Most houses are from the 1950s to the 1970s, but some date back to the early 20th century. Brand new construction has also been popping up. Prices usually range between $100,000 and $245,000, but new construction can sell between $260,000 and $300,000. The area also has starter homes, mobile homes and investment properties for under $100,000.

Students are near McCracken County schools and Paducah colleges

Farley is part of the McCracken County Schools district, which allows students to apply to schools outside their assigned zoning. However, most kids start at Reidland Elementary, which has an A-minus Niche score. Next is Reidland Intermediate, which has a B, followed by Reidland Middle, which has an A-minus. McCracken County High has a B-minus score and an internship program that connects students with local businesses and industries to gain real-life experience.
The community is also within 8 miles of higher education institutions, like Murray State University and West Kentucky Community and Technical College.

Bustling retail centers, employers and nonprofits in and around Farley

Along Highway 62, Paducah City Center has several chain restaurants and nationally recognized stores, like Walmart, Lowe's and Kroger. Even more dining options, from fast-food spots to locally owned businesses, surround the shopping center. Meredith Family Grind is known for its iced coffees and down-to-earth atmosphere, while Bob's Drive-In serves its signature Fiesta Burgers with hot fries and $1 ice cream cones.
Several industrial employers and private organizations are also in and around Farley. Ingram Marine Group is a major shipping company along the Tennessee River transportation corridor. Paducah Cooperative Ministry offers local assistance programs, like a food pantry and Fresh Start Village, a transitional housing program for women and children. "We do our best to help everyone who comes through here and encourage them to become self-sufficient," says Alyssa Brookes, Paducah Cooperative Ministry's financial development coordinator.

Commuters can quickly reach Paducah, Calvert City and Illinois

Farley's access to main roads makes commuting convenient. Business Loop 24 and Highway 62 lead drivers into Paducah, while Interstate 24 heads north to Illinois. Locals are around 4 miles from downtown Paducah and 15 miles from Calvert City's larger industrial employers. Residents can also access the Paducah Area Transit System and a nearby Greyhound bus station. Baptist Health Paducah is the closest hospital, and Barkley Regional Airport is 14 miles away.

Parks and recreation options are in neighboring Paducah

Kolb Park, a small neighborhood park, has a playground and a shaded picnic area about 2 miles away. Robert Coleman Park also has a playground, but families flock to the park’s sprayground from May to September. Farley is less than 7 miles from Bob Noble Park, a sprawling area with everything from dog parks and an amphitheater to a skatepark and a seasonal swimming pool. The park also has walking paths and fishing piers around a 5-acre lake. Although the Ohio River primarily accommodates barge traffic, locals are 3 miles from the Clarks River Boat Launch and about 4 miles from the Paducah City Marina.
