Farmington has a more remote feel, still convenient to nearby towns
As the name suggests, Farmington is a semi-rural community on the outskirts of Rochester. The town is mostly made up of undeveloped landscapes, broken up by pockets of suburban subdivisions with neighborhood parks. “It’s a little bit more remote from Rochester central city, but it’s still traveling distance,” says Jeffrey Scofield, a local broker at Re/Max Plus with more than 30 years of experience. “You get some breathing room, and you can still work in Rochester, Canandaigua or Thomas Hospital is right there.” Locals are well-connected on Interstate 90 and also close to skiing and other recreation surrounding Canandaigua Lake.
Mostly suburban communities, some rural properties with acreage
Homes are typically clustered into suburban-style subdivisions, mostly dating back to the mid- to late-20th century, with some additions in the 21st century. Styles range from ranch-style and Colonial Revival-influenced builds to contemporary New Traditional homes with cross-gabled roofs and attached two-car garages. Flat grassy lots often start at a quarter-acre, dotted with mature oak and pine trees. Generally, prices mostly range from $170,000 to $670,000. Rural properties with more than 5 acres are much less common, ranging from $280,000 to $750,000. There are also many subdivisions with suburban-style townhomes and condos, often priced between $150,000 and $450,000. All-ages manufactured home communities offer units with between two and four bedrooms for between $30,000 and $190,000.
Small community parks with nearby skiing and golfing
Farmington Town Park is the largest community space, home to playgrounds, tennis and basketball courts. Many individual housing developments have their own parks with playgrounds and athletic courts. Beaver Creek Park is one example, also including a small pond and walking trails, and Mertensia Park has soccer and ball fields. “We’ve got parks and outdoor recreation all over,” Scofield says. “There’s also skiing, Bristol Ski Resort is 30 minutes from Farmington, so you don’t have to travel far for something to do.” In addition to skiing, Winged Pheasant Golf Links is one of several nearby golf courses, featuring 27 holes that are open to the public. Other community attractions include the Canandaigua/Rochester KOA campgrounds and Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack, a local casino and horse racing venue.
Victor Central School District and other public school options
Farmington is primarily split between the Victor Central School District, which earns an A rating from Niche, and the Manchester-Shortsville Central School District, which earns a B-minus. Small parts of the community are zoned for the A-minus-rated Canandaigua City School District and the B-rated Palmyra-Macedon Central School District. Victor Central School District is highly sought after by many families. The B-plus-rated Victor Primary School serves Kindergarten through fourth grade, while the B-plus-rated Victor Intermediate School serves third through sixth grade. Victor Junior High and Victor Senior High each earn an A, and the latter has classes in engineering and microbiology.
Restaurants and retailers line state highways
Restaurants are found along major roads like State Route 96, along with a few chain stores like Aldi and CVS. The locally owned Park Place Restaurant is a popular spot serving diner-style breakfast and lunch, while Prosecco Italian Restaurant and Jazz Bar offer authentic cuisine and live music on the weekends in an upscale setting. Though folks usually head to nearby towns for more shopping options, the Ontario Antique Mall is a popular destination for second-hand finds.
Community programs and events held through the Cobblestone Arts Center
The Cobblestone Arts Center, a local nonprofit, has all sorts of community programs like music classes and musical theatre productions. The center also hosts small free events around the holidays, including a Trunk or Treat gathering in October with pony rides and Winterfest, an indoor holiday market with live music and Santa Claus meet-and-greets.
