Families appreciate schools and proximity to downtown Madison and Verona
The Jamestown neighborhood sits just outside the Madison in the growing suburban community of Fitchburg. Major roads and the Beltline Highway provide easy access to Madison, Verona and rural areas, plus proximity to some of Madison’s most sought-after natural areas, local restaurant chains and several craft breweries. That varied convenience, plus the well-regarded Verona Area School District, rated an A on Niche, are two big selling points for the area. “It’s a nice family neighborhood and I think what draws the families is the school district,” says Lisa Bennett, a Realtor and Broker with RE/MAX Preferred.
Ranch style and split-level homes at comparatively affordable prices
Homes in Jamestown mostly sell within the $400,000 to $500,000 range, though some have sold for as little as $215,000. “Home prices are up,” says Bennett, “but Jamestown has always been affordable” so homes here are priced a bit lower than some surrounding areas. Ranch style homes are common, as are split-level homes. Colonial Revival elements like shutters and symmetrical facades also feature on some homes. Shade trees and well-maintained yards make for plenty of green ambiance, at least when not snow-covered. Most homes have attached garages and sidewalks line the residential streets.

Verona Area School District a major selling point
Jamestown is served by Country View Elementary School, rated a B-plus on Niche, and Badger Ridge Middle School, which earns a B. Badger Ridge feeds into Verona Area High School, which scores an A. Verona Area High offers numerous AP courses, including calculus, physics and chemistry. The school also provides career apprenticeship opportunities and a full range of competitive athletics. “When I’m showing properties to people from out of town, a lot of people have already earmarked that they want to be in this district,” says Bennett.

Access to major routes, downtown Madison and Verona
Jamestown is close to the Beltline, which runs from Middleton to the west to Madison’s far east side, and to other main roads like McKee and Verona roads. “It’s a great location, very centrally located to get to east side or west side,” says Becky Funk, real estate agent with First Weber Real Estate Services. Verona, where Epic Systems, one of the area’s largest employers, has its headquarters, is 5 miles away and downtown Madison is 8 miles away. The Dane County Regional Airport is about 15 miles away.
Local parks, natural areas and indoor options
Soccer, tennis, and basketball players can head to Huegel-Jamestown Park for courts and fields, while gardeners can take advantage of the community garden. Western Hills Park has basketball and volleyball courts. Three miles away, the University of Wisconsin’s Arboretum is home to 20 miles of trails for hiking or cross-country skiing in winter, plus summer camps for kids and weekly Sunday walks led by local naturalists. When the weather won’t cooperate, indoor activities include Toca Indoor Soccer, which hosts youth clinics and adult leagues, and Ten Pin Alley for bowling.

Favorite local chains and craft beer options
Laredo’s Mexican restaurant is a local chain serving authentic Mexican food while also promoting cultural awareness. “Fitchburg is also home to three fantastic local breweries. Delta Beer Lab, Hop Haus Brewing Co. and The Great Dane are all great stops for beer lovers and are all easily accessible by bike,” says Katherine Minski-Kirchner, the Marketing + Communications Director for the Fitchburg Chamber Visitor + Business Bureau. For a popular local pizza, residents order from Glass Nickel’s Fitchburg location on Muir Field Road. Several choices for groceries, including Aldi, Hy-Vee, and Target, are accessible on McKee Road.

Family fun and live music all summer
Verona Hometown Days is held annually in June and features carnival rides, live music, food and a parade in next door Verona. “Everybody always loves the Verona neighborhood festival every year. That’s a huge draw,” Bennett says. Other popular events include the free summer concerts at McKee Farms Park, and September’s Midwest Gypsy Swing Fest at Art in the Barn, a Fitchburg an 1870s barn converted into a concert venue.
