Drama Club performances at Flagstaff Unified district schools
Local kids may attend Flagstaff Unified district schools, including Manuel Demiguel Elementary, which earns an overall B-plus from Niche, and B-minus-rated Mount Elden Middle. At Flagstaff High, which also earns a B, students can join the Drama Club – the school’s fastest growing extracurricular group – and perform in popular musicals or comedies; theater classes are also offered here.Tours, lectures and music at the Arboretum
Event venues sit outside of the neighborhood. About 4 miles southwest of Presidio Park, The Arboretum at Flagstaff (locally known as the “Arb”) offers guided and self-guided tours through its 200 acres of herb gardens, meadows and greenhouses, open May through October. Residents can come here to listen to biology lectures, enjoy the Mountain Melodies concert series with local bands, or check out the haunted house at Halloween. The Arb also hosts summer camps where kids can learn about pollinators and the basics of camping.Playground slides, basketball and a bike route
Set in the center of the community, the roughly 1-acre Presidio Park is surrounded by towering pines and features a playground, a basketball half court and a gated dog park. Residents can soak up mountain views while biking along the neighborhood’s roughly mile-long paved section of the Flagstaff Urban Trails System, a 56-mile network of non-motorized, multi-use pathways connecting the city, then rest on a bench at Fresh Aire Park to the east; more bike routes sit south across I-40. Golfers can buy a non-residential membership at the private Flagstaff Ranch Golf Club about 3 miles southwest, where they can play the 18-hole course and enjoy access to the clubhouse, golf shop and practice facilities.Craftsman-style homes with very little maintenance
Craftsman-style homes from the mid-2010s are found along narrow, tree-lined residential streets. “The homes sit so close together that it’s like they’re stacked on top of each other,” says Bauer. “But they’re easy to maintain because the lots are so small, which second-home buyers here appreciate.” Most of these homes have shingle or wood-panel siding in earth-toned hues, as well as front porches with overhanging eaves and exposed beams; short driveways border up to two-car garages, and some homes have walkways to their front doors. When not strewn with gravel, front yards might be planted with miniature pines, young juniper bushes and mulch-packed flower beds. Sizes vary from 1,600-square-foot, three-bedrooms to 2,400-square-foot five-bedrooms; depending on the size, prices typically range from $550,000 to $750,000. “You’ll definitely see families out walking their dogs along the sidewalks, and kids playing in the streets because there’s very little through traffic. People aren’t coming over here unless they live here,” says Bauer.Travel by wheels, rails or bike
Interstate 40 is roughly 3 miles west, while Interstate 17 is 3 miles east; the latter leads 145 miles south to Phoenix. Historic Route 66 is about 1 mile north, leading about 4 miles northeast to downtown Flagstaff. Mountain Line Public Transit buses make stops about 2 miles outside of the neighborhood, while Amtrak trains depart from the Visitors Center station downtown. Residential streets are lined with sidewalks, and a designated bike route runs through the middle of the neighborhood. Flagstaff Medical Center sits about 4 miles northeast, and Flagstaff Pulliam Airport is 7 miles south.Fresh bread, Indian cuisine and nearby grocers
Shops and restaurants sit a few miles east of the neighborhood. Just off Historic Route 66 at the University Plaza Shopping Center, Village Baker makes fresh ciabatta and sourdough bread daily, while 3 miles east, the Delhi Palace Cuisine of India serves mushroom masala and chicken saag with fresh spinach; chain eateries here include Sizzler, and big-box retailers include Ross Dress for Less. For groceries, a Safeway is here, and nearby is a Sprouts Farmers Market. For gift and specialty shops, downtown is only 4 miles away, while 12 miles northeast, The Flagstaff Mall features over 50 retailers, as well as a food court and an outdoor fireplace.
