Flagstaff suburb with large homes near modern conveniences
Set about 4 miles northeast of Downtown Flagstaff, suburban Shadow Mountain offers semi-custom-built homes with nearby access to hiking trails in and out of the Coconino National Forest. “This neighborhood has larger homes under $1,000,000, close to the city center,” says Cody Bauer, Realtor with the Foundation Group at Best Flagstaff Homes Realty, who lives in the area, “but it’s also outside of the congestion of downtown.” Shops, restaurants and greenspaces are found just outside of this residential neighborhood, and local houses of worship include Trinity Heights United Methodist and Peace Lutheran Church.
Nearby forest and park trails
One of Flagstaff’s most popular loop trails, the 2-mile Nate Avery Trail, starts 2 miles southwest in the 215-acre Buffalo Park; both the trail and park are known for panoramic mountain views and diverse wildlife, and locals come here to stargaze at night. The roughly 3-mile gravel- and dirt-packed Pipeline Trail is also accessible from the park, and weaves through the Coconino National Forest; from the trail, mountain bikers and hikers can glimpse the rocky canyon slopes of Mount Elden amid groves of ponderosa pines.
