Home prices range from $20,000 to $180,000, and the median single-family home price in Ballenger Highway is $73,000, which is in line with Flint’s median.

Dining at Golden Gate and Da Red Wagon
The neighborhood's southeast corner has a cluster of shopping and dining options. Golden Gate is a laid-back San Francisco-themed diner that serves everything from omelets and hash to seafood platters and steaks. Based out of a simple cinderblock building, Da Red Wagon loads up patrons with barbecue and fried fish. Hong Da is a popular spot to get Chinese takeout. Eldorado Vista Park and Bassett Park
Ballenger Highway's residents can walk to two public green spaces. Eldorado Vista Park has a playground and a tennis court within the neighborhood. Just off the northeast corner, Bassett Park has fenced-in baseball fields and open fields where people can walk their pets. Ballenger Highway is also five blocks north of a landing along the Flint River, where paddlers can launch canoes and kayaks.

Since the State of Michigan has a school choice policy, Flint parents apply to send their kids to schools throughout the city. Durant-Tuuri-Mott Elementary is less than 2 miles southeast of the neighborhood and has a D Niche rating. About 3 miles east of the neighborhood, the WAY Academy of Flint is a public charter school for grades 7 through 12 with a C Niche rating. The Flint Barber College is located on Ballenger Highway’s south end. The private college helps students become licensed barbers in 10 to 13 months, and $5 haircuts are a big perk of living near the school. The neighborhood is less than 2 miles northwest of Kettering University, a private school with roughly 2,300 students.

Ballenger Highway has multiple churches. In the center of the neighborhood, Guiding Light Baptist Church holds Wednesday prayer meetings in addition to its Sunday services and Bible studies. Bethel United Methodist Church is on the neighborhood’s eastern border. A block away, New Community Baptist Church holds in-person and virtual services.

Bus stops border the neighborhood along Welch Boulevard to the north and North Ballenger Highway to the east. Commuters take Flushing Road about 3 miles to downtown Flint. In case of emergencies, Hurley Medical Center is about 2 miles east of the neighborhood. Bishop International Airport is just over 5 miles south of the neighborhood via North Ballenger Highway.
