Several parks are within a mile of Ballenger Square. Two blocks southeast of the neighborhood, Ballenger Park has a basketball court, a picnic table, an open-air shelter and two grills. William S. Ballenger Sr. created a trust that has supported the park for almost a century. Three blocks west of the neighborhood, Eldorado Vista Park has a tennis court and a playground. The neighborhood's churches have a prominent presence in the community. Bethel United Methodist Church hosts picnics and an annual motorcycle festival, including food vendors and live music. Bus stops line Mackin Road, on the community's north end. Commuters take Flushing Road and West 5th Avenue about 3 miles southeast to downtown Flint. Hurley Medical Center is about a mile east of the neighborhood. The American College of Surgeons has verified its emergency department as a Level I Trauma Center, meaning the hospital treats patients from injury through rehabilitation. To catch a flight, Bishop International Airport is about 6 miles south of the neighborhood via North Ballenger Highway and Interstate 75.Durant-Tuuri-Mott Elementary and the WAY Academy of Flint
Because of Flint's school choice policy, parents apply for their children to attend any school within the district. A mile southeast of the neighborhood, Durant-Tuuri-Mott Elementary is a Montessori school with a D Niche rating. The WAY Academy of Flint is about 3 miles east of the neighborhood and serves grades 7 through 12. The public charter school has face-to-face and virtual learning, teacher mentorships and laptops for all its students. The school has a C Niche rating. Roughly 1,900 undergraduates and 400 postgraduates attend Kettering University, a private college just over a mile south of the neighborhood.
