Flovilla is a largely rural community home to Indian Springs State Park
Flovilla is a characteristically rural community home to Georgia’s oldest state park. Indian Springs State Park draws thousands of people from across the state, but the area remains quiet. The state park straddles Flovilla’s western edge and is relatively separated from most of the town’s residential areas. Its small population of under 700 residents has developed a close-knit community. “It’s a very small town with a really good community feel to it,” says local Realtor Kim Freshwater of Century 21 Crowe Realty. She’s sold homes across the community for over a decade and lives in nearby Jackson. The community features acres of farmland and forests. “Hunting is popular, and a lot of people raise cattle,” Freshwater says.

Large plots and diverse housing options
Housing options vary widely in Flovilla. “It’s just really diverse,” Freshwater says. “You’ll find everything from manufactured homes to newer, more expensive houses.” The community’s oldest homes date back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including bungalows and Victorians near the center of town. Some three-bedroom, ranch-style homes are available across the community, built between the 1950s and 1990s. The community also features several newly or recently constructed contemporary colonials and farmhouses. The median sale price is $200,000, which is lower than the national median. Lots come in all sizes. “It’s a rural area. Unless you get real close to town, most of the properties will have some acreage,” Freshwater says. While properties near town measure a quarter to a half-acre, several lots in Flovilla sprawl across at least 10 acres.
You will find several new construction neighborhoods throughout Butts County.

A day at Indian Springs State Park
Indian Springs State Park sprawls across 528 acres, centered around a 105-acre lake where visitors fish, kayak and canoe; boat rentals are available. Hikers can hit the Overland Nature Trail, which traverses Aboothlacoosta Creek, or they can explore the trails of the Dauset Trail system. Some additional state park features include a mini-golf course, campgrounds and rentable cottages. Lake Flovilla is a hub of outdoor recreation. The 1.25-acre lake is popular for fishing, regularly stocked with bass and catfish. It’s circled by a small, undeveloped walking path with a couple of open spots for anglers to cast a line. There’s also an adjacent clearing in the surrounding woods with a playground for the kids and a covered picnic area with several tables. Charles Huggins Jr. and Malcolm Smith Bicentennial Park offer additional play space for the kids.

The Village at Indian Springs
The town of Flovilla is primarily residential with limited commercial infrastructure. Dollar General and the Speedy Stop gas station offer snacks and a few essentials. Residents can access several dining and shopping options outside the town proper. “Flovilla on a larger scale includes Indian Springs,” Freshwater says. “The Village of Indian Springs, which is privately owned, has the cutest little shops, renovated historic buildings, cottages where you can stay, and a restaurant that’s delicious.” Yahola Creek is the place to go from Thursday through Sunday, offering items like smoked trout, ribeye and grits with shrimp and gouda. Locals can shop for home goods at The Painted Nest or peruse the general merchandise at the Big Chief Country Store. Jackson offers grocery stores like Piggly Wiggly and Ingles Market.
