The forested community features everything from typical ranch-style houses and cozy Craftsman homes to larger contemporary dwellings. “There are actually a few different neighborhoods inside the community,” says Orban, “for example, the active adult community called the Retreat at Sterling Lake or a higher-end lifestyle in the Preserve.” Large yards, garages and ample outdoor space are common features of Sterling residences. Homes tend to sell fairly quickly when they’re put on the market, and lakefront properties often have higher prices. Hall County Schools oversees the education of Sterling on the Lake’s students. Spout Springs Elementary School receives a B-plus from Niche, which also rates the school as the No. 1 public elementary school in Hall County. Davis Middle School receives a B. Cherokee Bluff High has an A-minus on Niche. Boat launches and fishing spots are available on the 45-acre Lake Sterling. In addition to water sports, residents have access two four swimming pools around the neighborhood. Residents can walk or bike along connecting trails to the community clubhouse, which has a fitness center, a clubhouse library, resource rooms and a 27-seat theater available for meetings and events. The community also has tennis courts and four playgrounds, including a treehouse built by treehouse master Pete Nelson. The community is largely car-dependent, and residents can easily drive around the area. “The location is convenient to Interstate 85, I-985 and most shopping and attractions in Buford, Braselton and Flowery Branch,” says Orban. Flowery Branch is 4 miles from Sterling on the Lake, while Buford and Braselton are 8 miles and 10 miles from the community. Atlanta is 44 miles to the southwest along I-85. Residents do most of their shopping and dining in the community of Flowery Branch. The Village Shoppes of Flowery Branch has Publix and casual restaurants. Across the street, Stonebridge Village has national retailers like Home Depot, Target and T.J. Maxx. The town's historic district hosts a weekly summer market where vendors sell homemade crafts and fresh produce. After the market, locals can walk over to Whole Being Café for one of their specialty smoothies or baked goods. Another spot in the historic district is Caroline’s on Main, which dishes out creative twists on Southern cuisine.Flowery Branch celebrates 150 years
Residents kick-off the start of the fall season at Flowery Branch Days, an annual festival held at the end of September with food truck, vendors and live music. The town celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2024. Music lovers can watch free concerts at the town's amphitheater on the first Sunday of the month from May to October.
