Ono Island is a secluded community with access to Orange Beach amenities
Ono Island is a secluded barrier island on Alabama's Gulf Coast. Saddled between the Old River and Bayou St. John, the gated community encompasses the entire island, and the only ways on are by the Ono Island Way bridge or by boat. "Ono Island has more of a local feel, and it's purely residential. Short-term rentals aren't allowed, so there are mostly full-time residents here," says Realtor Kelsey Davis with Bellator Realty and Development. "There aren't any stores or restaurants, so you have to go to Orange Beach. It's nice because you can get there by boat or anywhere by boat because it's close to everything." As secluded as the beach community is, it's close enough to Orange Beach and to the Gulf that residents don't feel stranded. "There's a boat ramp for all residents who don't have private docks, and people will take the boat out on the bay or go out to the Gulf and do deep-sea fishing. It's an excellent place for people who love the water."
Ono Island Way is the only road onto Ono Island and a stop at the guard shack is necessary.
Residents of Ono Island can boat to many shopping and dining locations in Orange Beach.

Workout at Ono Rec Center, take the boat out on the Gulf, or lounge on the beach
The community is home to the Ono North Recreation Center, which has two large pools and a well-appointed fitness room. There are also basketball, tennis and pickleball courts. While most homes have private docks, those without can launch a boat or kayak on Boat Launch Road. In addition to getting out on the Gulf or cruising around Bayou St. John, many residents will moor their boats on or around nearby islands to hang out with friends, picnic, sunbathe and party. Ono Island residents are just a short drive from the Gulf, with beach accesses along Perdido Key Boulevard that lead to sugar white sand beaches and blue water. Other beach access points are also at Gulf State Park, about 15 miles away. The park has 37 miles of biking and hiking trails that wind through lush, grassy marshes, a dog park, a fishing pier and a nature center.

Waterfront homes with manicured lawns and a wide mix of price
Ono Island residences embody the area's laid-back, coastal lifestyle. Private roads wind through stretches of sandy dunes and towering palm and pine trees. Houses are set on manicured lawns, with backyard pools and entertainment areas. Most homes have water views, and many have private docks. "There are waterfront and canal lots available, and with a boat ramp, anyone can get out on the water," Davis says. The community's large homes are often found in contemporary coastal, Spanish-inspired, New Traditional and modern farmhouse styles. "There are some older homes, but new construction and lots are available too," Davis says. "It's not a cookie-cutter neighborhood, though. They value the aesthetic, but homes can have a unique style as long as it's complementary." Housing prices often depend on the age and size of the home. Older homes are usually priced between $500,000 and $900,000. Homes directly on the water and new construction may cost anywhere from $1 million to $8 million. HOA fees range from $150 to $700, depending on the home.
