Foothill Ranch is a master-planned community in Lake Forest, ideal for those who enjoy proximity to outdoor fun but still want to remain connected to plenty of commercial amenities. Whiting Ranch and Limestone Canyon offer miles of outdoor fun
Many streets in Foothill Ranch offer views of the Santa Ana Mountains, a reminder of how close you are to a wealth of hiking. You can head to Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park, a roughly 2,500-acre expanse at the foothills of the mountains with 17 miles of trails, open for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. This park is connected to the even bigger Limestone Canyon Regional Park, which stretches 4,000 acres and, in addition to trails of its own, includes Limestone Canyon Cave, with underground passages to explore. If you’re looking for more of a casual outdoor excursion you can take the kids to the roughly 6-acre Borrego Park, where there’s a covered playground set, a basketball court, and a soccer field. The area’s Foothill Ranch Community Park and Borrego Canyon Overlook Park also have playgrounds.

Career and academic tracks available from middle to high school
Kids in Foothill Ranch can attend schools in the well-regarded Saddleback Valley Unified School District, a system that boasts an A overall rating on Niche. They can start at the neighborhood’s Foothill Ranch Elementary, a school that provides music instruction to all students. Then they can progress to Rancho Santa Margarita Intermediate for Grades 7 and 8, which has its own Career Technical Education department with courses in media production, digital film, culinary arts, industrial technology and STEM.
