Brown Farm
1970s architecture
The subdivision was developed in the 1970s and ‘80s and sidewalks line its quiet cul-de-sac streets. Small front lots are landscaped with flowers, shrubbery and aspen. Cottonwood and pines also dot yards. Ranch-style homes, split-levels and Colonial Revivals line the streets of Brown Farm, and most houses feature fenced-in backyards and attached garages. Houses here tend to be more affordable compared to other Fort Collins communities, with price tags starting at $380,000 for 1,200-square-foot ranch-style homes. “The area is attractive to first-time homebuyers,” Bidwell says. “It’s not quite a college housing area, but recent Colorado State University graduates and young families are attracted to the slightly lower prices.” Fully renovated homes with over 2,000 square feet make up the market’s higher end with sales prices between $550,000 and $600,000. Additionally, houses sit close together on quarter-acre lots. .The Horsetooth Reservoir
From waterside recreation to hundreds of miles of hiking trails, Brown Farm residents have a catalog of outdoor offerings to choose from, all within a five-mile radius of the neighborhood. “There’s a lot of open space in Brown Farm where people walk their dogs,” Bidwell says. The Horsetooth Reservoir spans 6 miles just west of Fort Collins, running parallel to downtown, and is surrounded by nearly 2,000 acres of public outdoor space. The Horsetooth area features a campground and a marina. Visitors will find 14 hiking trails throughout the open space, including the 3-mile Horsetooth Falls Loop Trail. Anglers can cast a line from their boat or the Reservoir’s shore to reel in walleye, trout, bass or panfish. Between this expansive recreation area and Brown Farms, is the 18-hole Aggie Greens Disc Golf Course. The Pleasant Valley Lake Canal is a small tributary that runs between the community’s residential areas, and the dirt path that borders it is walkable.Drake Crossing Shopping Center
The Drake Crossing Shopping Center lies at the intersection of South Taft Hill Road and Drake Road and features a Safeway, a Walgreens and a handful of eateries. Maya Cove offers pub fare in a laid-back setting, and patrons can be found enjoying a smoked brisket sandwich out on the patio. The restaurant also hosts trivia nights twice per month and live music every Thursday. Intersect Brewing has around 20 craft beers on tap that can be enjoyed alongside hand-made pizza and soft pretzels. The Holiday Twin Drive-in Theater is on the neighborhood’s west side, where moviegoers can catch a double feature while chowing down on burgers and nachos from the comfort of their cars.Brown Farm public schools
