There are numerous outdoor recreation areas within walking distance of Old Prospect. “The CSU Annual Flower Trial Gardens are beautiful,” says April Neuhaus, a local Realtor with Neuhaus Real Estate. “It’s open to the public, with hundreds of varieties of flowers planted throughout.” The gardens are maintained by CSU's Department of Horticulture, with the goal of testing how different flora may fare in the unique Front Range environment of the Rocky Mountains.The Spring Creek Trail is a 9-mile paved path that passes through a handful of Fort Collins Parks alongside its namesake, Spring Creek, from Spring Canyon Community Park to the Poudre River Trail. Spring Park has baseball diamonds, a soccer field and a playground. The Gardens on Spring Creek is a mile west. It has 12-acres of outdoor botanical gardens, a butterfly house with over 300 winged species and an amphitheater. Each summer, the stage hosts the Live at the Gardens concert series. The Lagoon Summer Concert Series is a free weekly event put on by CSU, where students and community members gather on campus for live music and food from local vendors.
Public schools of Old Prospect
O'Dea Elementary School is a mile south of the neighborhood’s residential streets and earns a B-plus grade from Niche. Lesher Middle School also receives a B-plus rating and offers a unique selection of extracurriculars, including River Watch, where students collect and analyze water samples from Spring Creek to better understand their local tributary. Fort Collins High School earns an A-minus grade and partners with Front Range Community College for dual enrollment courses. High schoolers can also participate in the work-based learning program to garner experience in local workplaces with businesses like the Bank of Colorado and Colorado Health Systems.
MAX Transit
The MAX Transit bus system has stops along East Prospect Road and South College Avenue. Interstate 25 can take drivers 45 miles to Boulder or 63 miles to downtown Denver.College Avenue restaurants
South College Avenue runs just west of Old Prospect’s residential streets, allowing convenient access to dozens of restaurants and businesses. Saigon Grill serves classic Vietnamese cuisine and, next door, Nick’s Restaurant and Bar specializes in New York-style pizzas and Italian staples from chicken piccata to calamari. The Colorado Room is a bar and grill that make sandwiches with an outdoor patio. Taqueria Los Comales crafts signature tacos. Prost Brewing Co. and Biergarten has authentic German lagers and ales. Additionally, Whole Foods Market and King Soopers are nearby options for groceries and other essentials.Driving 2 miles north on College Avenue takes residents to Old Town, the city’s active shopping and dining district. “Most people in Fort Collins head to Old Town for drinks or dinner out,” Neuhaus says. “There are tons of options, and many businesses that have been around for decades. Plus, when college kids are in town during the school year, bars have special happy-hour deals on weeknights.”
