Expansive recreation hubs
The Horsetooth Reservoir has 1,900 surface acres and 25 miles of shoreline and is a hot spot for swimming, boating, fishing and paddle boarding in the summer months. “It draws in hundreds of thousands of visitors every year,” says Mike Sibbald, a local Realtor with Elevations Real Estate. “While people do travel in from out of town, it’s not just a tourist attraction. We have a very active community here in Fort Collins, and lots of locals use the area’s trails for their daily runs and bike rides. When CSU is in session, it's a popular spot among college students on the weekends.” The water is surrounded by 2,000 acres of public land, home to campgrounds, over 20 miles of mountainous hiking and biking trails and plentiful picnic spots.
Overland Park lies in the center of the neighborhood and has facilities for baseball, tennis, basketball and soccer, along with a playground, picnic area and walking path. The path winds around a small pond, where anglers can fish for black crappies, rainbow trout and bluegill. Avery Park is also nearby, with a playground, basketball court and open field space. The Red Fox Meadows Natural Area has a mile of soft surface trails. Poudre Libraries hosts its Art in the Great Outdoors events for local teens in the natural area’s outdoor classroom.
