The Horsetooth Reservoir has 1,900 surface acres and 25 miles of shoreline and is a hot spot for swimming, boating, fishing and paddle boarding in the summer months. “It draws in hundreds of thousands of visitors every year,” says Mike Sibbald, a local Realtor with Elevations Real Estate. “While people do travel in from out of town, it’s not just a tourist attraction. We have a very active community here in Fort Collins, and lots of locals use the area’s trails for their daily runs and bike rides. When CSU is in session, it's a popular spot among college students on the weekends.” The water is surrounded by 2,000 acres of public land, home to campgrounds, over 20 miles of mountainous hiking and biking trails and plentiful picnic spots.Overland Park lies in the center of the neighborhood and has facilities for baseball, tennis, basketball and soccer, along with a playground, picnic area and walking path. The path winds around a small pond, where anglers can fish for black crappies, rainbow trout and bluegill. Avery Park is also nearby, with a playground, basketball court and open field space. The Red Fox Meadows Natural Area has a mile of soft surface trails. Poudre Libraries hosts its Art in the Great Outdoors events for local teens in the natural area’s outdoor classroom.
Visual arts and dual enrollment at Rocky Mountain High
Bauder Elementary School is just south of the neighborhood and earns a B overall grade from Niche. Blevins Middle School, home of the Bruins, has a B-plus grade. Rocky Mountain High School receives an A-minus grade. The high school also has a wide variety of visual arts courses, from jewelry making to digital drawing and painting. Students can earn college credits before graduating high school by taking dual enrollment courses at Front Range Community College.A biker's paradise
The neighborhood includes some of the 200 miles of biking lanes and trails throughout the Fort Collins area. The biker’s paradise has a Bike Score of 93 out of 100. Each of P.O.E.T.’s different namesake streets are dotted with Transfort bus stops, including 25 routes across the city.Asian cuisine and craft brews
There is a small shopping center in the community’s northeastern corner, at the intersection of South Taft Hill Road and West Elizabeth Street, home to King Soopers and a selection of small businesses. White Tree Sushi and Asian Cuisine has a mixture of Japanese and Korean dishes, from bulgogi, a traditional Korean-style steak, to hand-crafted sushi rolls. Cups Community Coffee is a family owned cafe serving hot breakfast sandwiches, baked goods and made-to-order coffee and smoothies. Around the corner, Mythmaker Brewing has around 15 rotating craft beers on tap, with regular trivia nights and food trucks every Wednesday.
