A suburb first-time buyers return to
Every neighborhood has its distinct qualities, but Arlington Park is one of the few suburbs in America with publicly accessible walking paths tracing their way throughout. Not to be confused with sidewalks, which are rare here, these pedestrian-only paths parallel neighborhood streets in much the same way that an alley would. But recreational opportunities go far beyond walking paths in this neighborhood that sits 10 miles northeast of downtown Fort Wayne. “It’s such a fun neighborhood,” says Realtor Michelle Wyatt, a former resident of the neighborhood and Realtor with more than two decades of experience here. “My five kids grew up there, and they all own houses in the neighborhood now. It’s our favorite neighborhood in all of Fort Wayne.”
Variety of styles on larger lots
Potential buyers will find a variety of architectural styles throughout Arlington Park, ranging from cozy ranchers and farmhouses to colonial-inspired brick homes. The median price of real estate in Arlington Park is $275,000, and buyers can expect to pay an average of $113 per square foot. A two-bedroom/two-bathroom Cape Cod can sell for around $170,000, and prices can go up to $355,000 for a five-bedroom/five-bathroom ranch-style home with a basement. Large, well-kept lawns are the norm, and many houses feature extensive landscaping.

Teeing off and serving up
For outdoor recreation, residents can head to the centrally located Rocket Park, which features a playground, picnic tables and plenty of open space for playing. Adjacent to the park are the Arlington Park community pools, which open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. With three pools – one for small children, one for families and one for lap swimming – the pools offer residents an easy way to cool off during the warm summer months. Golfers can tee off at the 9-hole Arlington Park Golf Club, which also features a pro shop staffed by a teaching pro who is available for private lessons. There are also several tennis and pickleball courts throughout the neighborhood for use by residents, and anglers can try their luck on either of the two neighborhood fishing ponds reserved for residents’ use. Those who prefer to stay indoors can still have plenty of fun at the Arlington Park Clubhouse, which features two racquetball courts, two billiards tables, space for office work and also space for just relaxing with a good book. “There is just so much to do in the area. The neighborhood offers something for everyone, and that’s why it’s such a great place for singles, families, retirees, everyone,” says Wyatt.

Shopping centers all around
Because of Arlington Park’s proximity to nearby major thoroughfares, residents are less than 3 miles from both Highway 24 and Interstate 469. However, the lack of mass transit stops in the neighborhood makes the area car-dependent. When it’s time to stock up on groceries, neighborhood residents head to Meijer, approximately 2 miles east on St. Joe Center Road, which marks the northern boundary of Arlington Park. Chapel Ridge Shopping Center is also about 2 miles away, where shoppers can find Marshalls, Michaels and Walmart Supercenter. An Indiana University Health Urgent Care facility is located just over a mile west of the neighborhood for any unforeseen medical emergencies, and Lutheran Downtown Hospital is two miles away on Stellhorn Road. When dining out is on the menu, a local favorite is Shigs in Pit Barbecue & Brew, with a menu that features traditional barbecue, a variety of sandwich options and traditional sides.
