A prime location for downtown commuters and trades workers

In Brentwood Park, wide streets and sidewalks offer the usual suburban streetscape, but this side of town is known, too, for its industrial footprint, about 3 miles down Coliseum Boulevard or 5 miles east to New Haven. “It’s definitely blue collar,” says Broker Tim Tower of Century 21 Bradley Realty, Inc. Perhaps most important is that homes in this neighborhood are priced relatively accessibly, especially considering how many restaurants and shops appear along Coliseum Boulevard, the thoroughfare.

Boarding the Citilink

Coliseum Boulevard can take Brentwood Park residents north toward Interstate 69 or south toward the area’s major industrial park. “You have a quick and easy drive into New Haven, and then you can be in Ohio. So, you get a lot of people who work in Fort Wayne and live in Ohio and vice versa,” says Tower. Downtown Fort Wayne is a 5-mile, 12-minute drive away. The Citilink bus system also serves the area, making for a 40-minute ride into town for commuters. Residents who drive can reach Fort Wayne International Airport in just under half an hour.

Shopping and dining a quick drive away

The community has a small-town appearance from home to home, a spell that’s broken once residents hop in the car. “Brentwood Park has a little bit more of a neighborhood feel,” says local Realtor Drew Morken of Morken Real Estate Services, Inc. “Some of those streets aren’t close to busy streets.” Coliseum Boulevard is the busiest, a commercial stretch that includes the breakfast spot Lakeside Café. Residents can also enjoy the well-liked margaritas at Cebollas Mexican Grill along Maplecrest Road. “Fort Wayne's just got so many great restaurants,” says Morken. “It’s hard not to find something close to you.” Maplecrest Road intersects with East State Boulevard near the Georgetown Square shopping center, which includes a Kroger, which is convenient for grabbing groceries and other essentials. There’s also a Target in the Northwood Plaza shopping center on Stellhorn Road.

Attractively priced homes in a small suburban pocket

Brentwood Parks’ streets can accommodate parked cars on one side. Sidewalks are narrow, but the yards they touch are uniform and well-kept, usually amounting to one-fifth of an acre. “It’s less busy as far as street traffic goes,” says Morken. “It’s a nice place to go for a walk.” Many of the homes themselves were built during the mid-20th century, with the occasional combination of brick and vinyl on their exteriors. The Cape Cod and ranch styles are popular, with floor plans of around 1,300 square feet on average. Homes in Brentwood Park usually sell for between $100,000 and $200,000, less than half the national average.
