Walkable Fort Wayne community with tall trees
In the heart of southern Fort Wayne is Harrison Hill, a community where the parks and sidewalks connect with schools, businesses and homes from the early 1900s. Within walking distance of St Mary's River and multiple parks, Harrison Hill residents enjoy both laid-back suburban living and convenient downtown access. "The community and neighborhood are fantastic – very focused on development, growth and safety," says Ben Ruhl, a real estate broker at Mike Thomas Associates and a Harrison Hill resident. “We're always finding ways to improve.”

Homes with historic details overlook downtown
Harrison Hill overlooks the city to the north, and residents enjoy views of the downtown skyline from front porches or neat, small yards. The community's original builders drew architectural influence from popular early 20th-century designs with charming wooden details inspired by Tudors, Colonial revivals and Cape Cods. Properties range in price between $130,000 and $200,000 and are generally priced lower than houses in the surrounding neighborhoods. "The market is steady and consistent. We tend to be more insulated here," Ruhl says, adding that most for-sale homes find a new owner within a week.
A unique aspect of this neighborhood is that porches commonly have arched roofs.

Three large parks are within walking distance
Packard Park, the closest park to Harrison Hill, is tailored for children. It has a playground and seasonal splash pad. A block north is Lutheran Park, a larger spot with walking paths and dotted with statues commemorating the Lutheran Hospital that once occupied the site. West of Harrison Hill, Foster Park's hundreds of acres are punctuated with gardens and nature trails. It also features a golf course, children's play area, a replica of Abraham Lincoln's log cabin and views of the St. Mary's River. Harrison Hill hosts year-round events at its parks, from beautification projects such as tree plantings to social gatherings such as book clubs and holiday celebrations. The neighborhood association is active, hosting monthly town meetings. According to Ruhl, the biggest local project is Packard 2030, a Fort Wayne community development plan for 15 adjoining neighborhoods, focusing on revitalization, neighborhood character, parks and mobility in the city’s southwest urban core. "We're investing in current residents, inclusivity, infrastructure and creative arts-focused initiatives," Ruhl says.

Harrison Hill residents enjoy easy work commutes
Close to main city connectors and some of the region's top employers, the neighborhood is in a prime location for commuters. According to Century 21 Bradley Realtor Tim Tower, many local businesses rent office space in brick buildings on the Electric Works campus, 2 miles north of the neighborhood. “Electric Works is a big draw for the area,” says Tower. “Tons of vendors serve lunch, and the office spaces are cool and industrial.”
The city center is 3 miles north, and Lutheran Hospital is around 7 miles west. Fairfield Avenue, South Calhoun Street and Highway 27 run near the neighborhood and lead downtown. Most residents can walk to bus stops lining these main roads for a car-free commute, and longer-distance travel starts 6 miles south at Fort Wayne International Airport. "From Harrison Hill, you can get anywhere in 15 to 20 minutes," says Ruhl.
