Hoagland Masterson "buzzes" with promise
Newcomers to Hoagland Masterson might sense the electricity in the air when they first arrive, from the Webster Electrical Substation in the northernmost part of the neighborhood to Electric Works, to the sprawling live-work development at Broadway and Wall Street that was once home to GE. That buzz is also thanks to the ongoing revitalization efforts in downtown Fort Wayne and neighborhoods like Hoagland Masterson, located just a few miles south, are reaping the benefits. “It’s becoming a really hip place to live,” says Kammrin Bernard, a Realtor with American Dream Team Real Estate Brokers who sells throughout Fort Wayne. “Investors are coming in and opening restaurants and shops. It’s becoming more walkable, which is really cool. And then on top of that, you have all these great old houses which are getting fixed up. It's exciting."

Homes on the range
Tall Stick houses from the late 1800s, Prairie-style builds from the 1930s and new 2020s-era Craftsman-style homes sit side-by-side on the quiet, tree-lined streets throughout the neighborhood. Lot sizes are narrow, and houses sit close, with compact front yards and roomy backyards. Many homes have detached garages in the back, but the streets offer additional parking if needed. Residents can walk to nearby retailers, restaurants and services thanks to the neighborhood's grid layout and abundant sidewalks. On average, prices range from the low $100,000s to the low $200,000s, and buyers should note that a lower price tag doesn’t always equate to less square footage. Some buyers find large homes for a bargain, then roll up their sleeves and start renovating.

Fishing and fun at Ivan Lebamoff Reservoir Park

The area used to be home to the community's water supply but now serves as a recreational spot where locals can fish, exercise and spend time together. The newly refurbished basketball courts are often buzzing with activity after school, as is the bright blue playground at the park’s center. A paved trail winds throughout the park, offering a place for walkers and joggers to get their heartrates up. The fun keeps going in the winter, too — this park is a popular sledding spot thanks to the steep hills surrounding it.
