A close-knit suburban community just two miles from downtown
Set just south of the Maumee River, Memorial Park is a suburban neighborhood known for its sense of community and large, centrally located park. "Overall, it's a tight-knit community because everyone here is hard-working folks," says Chad Odjick, the owner of Dynamic Tuning Specialists auto body shop in the neighborhood. "It's convenient,” says Odjick. “You can get to anything you could possibly want within five to 10 minutes.” Students attend schools in the highly rated Fort Wayne Community District and nearby Indiana Tech. While the area is a mix of residential and commercial properties, Downtown Fort Wayne and its surrounding communities have many quirky shops and trendy eateries to explore.

Smaller bungalows and ranch-style homes dominate the neighborhood
Gridded residential streets are built around Memorial Park. Many of the neighborhood’s homes were built in the mid-20th century. Petite ranch-style homes and aluminum-sided bungalows appear on lots that rarely exceed a fifth of an acre. Smaller, older, fixer-uppers can sell for between $48,000 and $75,000, while renovated homes can sell for between $89,000 and $168,000. “With housing prices going up considerably, these houses are very moderately priced in comparison,” says Realtor Jay Howell of Red Howell Associates, Inc.

Memorial Park is centrally located
True to its name, Memorial Park honors and celebrates its residents. The park is a tribute to Fort Wayne and Allen County soldiers who served and died during World War I. Measuring approximately 40 acres, residents have plenty of space to explore the baseball diamond, pavilion, playground, splash pad and memorial tree grove. The park also has a monument in honor of aviation pioneer and Fort Wayne resident Art Smith who was once called "the world's greatest stunt flyer. On the southwest end, there’s Slam City Skatepark. This indoor course is where athletes test their skills and tune up their bikes. The neighborhood brushes up against the Maumee River, but swimming is not advisable due to the presence of pollutants and the water levels. Instead, outdoorsy folk might take a leisurely walk along the Maumee Pathway, following the bend of the river.

Run by the Japanese-American Association of Indiana, the festival is a cultural event serving authentic cuisine, hosting anime drawing and cosplay contests, and offering games for kids. Within 5 miles of Memorial Park is the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, that regularly hosts concerts, basketball games and home and garden expos.
