Pallet Park, the Yard and Brewer Park
A handful of pocket green spaces dot the map of Mount Vernon Park. Aptly named, Pallet Park is a grassy nook filled with pallets and tires that have been upcycled and painted bright colors to create fun play structures. This park was put together by a local church, Bridge of Grace Ministries Center, as part of a neighborhood revitalization project and is open to the public. The church also repurposed two more vacant lots, creating The Yard, which has gazebos made from painted pallets and spots to sit under the shade of towering oaks, and The Harbor, which offers more scenic sitting areas and a stage for local thespians. Last but not least, Brewer Park is a more traditional green space and is managed by the city. It features basketball courts, a multipurpose field and a playground.
