Suburban streets, waterfront views and community parks
Sea Colony offers up a tapestry of waterfront views, bustling local parks and upscale homes just minutes from the San Francisco Bay shore. The neighborhood is in the heart of Foster City, a Peninsula suburb at the northern tip of Silicon Valley. Largely built between the 1970s and 80s, it’s known for its spacious homes, safe, walkable streets and strong public schools. “It’s a breezy, beautiful neighborhood in an area that’s known for good schools. There are a lot of young families and people that work in tech,” says Realtor Kimberly Birdsall of Compass Realty, who grew up on the Peninsula. The neighborhood is less than a mile from Oracle’s sprawling corporate headquarters, a major area tech employer.
Spacious homes on walkable streets
Sea Colony has more than 850 homes across several subdivisions. Homes are typically on the larger side, sporting as many as five bedrooms across 3,000 square feet of living space. Many sit along the shores of Central Lake and the Belmont Slough wetlands, offering residents sought-after waterfront views from their windows. Listing prices typically range between $2 million and $3 million, with waterfront homes fetching the highest prices. The median home value is double that of the San Francisco metro area.

Highly rated Peninsula public schools
Students start their education at Foster City Elementary School and Bodwitch Middle School, both of which get A ratings from Niche. They continue to A-plus-rated San Mateo High School, which Niche ranks in the top 5 best high schools in San Mateo County. The school is known for its variety of sought-after extracurriculars and electives, including its robust biotechnology and award-winning journalism programs. “Foster City has some of the highest-rated schools on the Peninsula. We get a lot of people who are moving here specifically for the schools,” Birdsall says.

Little league at Sea Cloud Park
Sea Cloud Park is a major perk of living in the neighborhood — especially for kids who play baseball. Home to the Foster City Little League, it has five baseball diamonds, batting cages, electronic scoreboards and a snack shack. The park is known around town as the city’s “sporting gem.” The park is also an access point for the Bay Trail, a hugely popular regional biking and walking trail that snakes around the neighborhood's southern edge. The trail skirts the rich, wildlife-filled wetlands of Belmont Slough before reaching the San Francisco Bay shoreline. Gateshead Park and Antigua Park are also in the neighborhood and offer playgrounds and walking paths.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
