Sawgrass Bay is becoming even more connected to Disney World

Sawgrass Bay is a contemporary subdivision in Clermont, about 20 miles from Walt Disney World Resort. The community offers private amenities, comparatively low homeowners association fees and highly rated schools, in addition to its proximity to theme parks. Additionally, new infrastructure in the area will make the trip to one of the state’s most iconic attractions even shorter. “They’re connecting the roads in Sawgrass Bay Boulevard to […] Western Way and Winter Garden. When I purchased [my] house, I was working at Disney World, and it would take me about 35 to 40 minutes to get to work,” says Tyler Labod, a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker Realty, who has about five years of experience and lives in the community. “When they connect the roads, it would be about 12 minutes […] There was an opportunity for equity because of the proximity.”

New Traditional homes with access to HOA-maintained amenities

Verdant carpets of grass cover front lawns, which are decorated with neatly trimmed hedges and interrupted by sidewalks and wide driveways. New Traditional and contemporary Craftsman homes from the 2010s and the early 2020s range from $350,000 to $560,000, and some feature private pools and lanais. Residents are part of a homeowners association that charges around $45 per month to maintain amenities that include a community pool, a sand volleyball court and walking trails that run throughout the neighborhood. “They have enough to serve the community, but it’s not overbearing with the fees,” Labod says. “You get the amenities, but you don’t have to pay $280 a month.”Sawgrass Bay earns a CAP Index Crime Score of 1 out of 10; compared to the national average of 4. The area is also prone to strong winds and may be at an increased risk of wildfires.

Robust career technical education programs at East Ridge High School

Children may begin their education at Sawgrass Bay Elementary School, which scores a C-plus grade from Niche. Afterward, they may move forward to the B-rated Windy Hill Middle School and East Ridge High School, which receives a B-plus. The high school offers nearly 30 Advanced Placement courses, as well as a variety of career technical education programs, ranging in fields from television production technology and marketing to applied cybersecurity. Students in the East Ridge Knights Television Production Academy produce the daily WKTN news, while those studying early education may work toward their Child Development Associate credential in the on-campus Little Knights preschool program. The school also partners with the University of Central Florida, Lake-Sumter State College and South Lake Hospital to offer the Health Science Collegiate Academy to students interested in STEM or health science.

Community amenities, hunting grounds and 15 miles to Disney World

The residential streets of Sawgrass Bay form a semi-circle around the community’s amenities. Leafy palm trees hover over the black iron-wrought fence that surrounds the community pool, and a paved walking path leads to a playground and a beach volleyball court. West of the neighborhood, the Hilochee Wildlife Management Area is a destination among fishermen, as well as wild hog and spring turkey hunters. Outside of hunting season, the area’s trails are flattened by hikers, cyclists and equestrians. Walt Disney World Resort and various other theme parks are about a 15-mile drive from Sawgrass Bay.

South and Central American flavors from food trucks on U.S. Route 27

Sawgrass Bay is near several popular South and Central American food trucks. El Chino Guayaco serves classic Salvadoran dishes, like bollo — a bun made from green plantains, peanut paste and fish — and chaulafan, or fried rice with egg, chicken, shrimp and ham. Next door, La Jefa del Pabellón specializes in Venezuela’s take on cheese sticks, empanadas and corn pancakes. The food truck’s specialty is pabellon criollo, a dish consisting of shredded beef, rice, eggs, black beans and plantains. To the south, along U.S. Route 27, El Sandwichon specializes in Puerto Rican flavors, including loaded sandwiches and conos, or cones, with fresh conch, octopus or shrimp. A Publix Super Market is also on the highway in the Golden Eagle Village shopping center.

Highway connections to Lakeland, Orlando and its international airport

Sawgrass Bay is situated to the east of U.S. Route 27, which connects to Interstate 4. Drivers can follow the interstate west toward Lakeland — roughly 40 miles away — or east to reach the Orlando International Airport, about 35 miles from the community. Downtown Orlando is also approximately 35 miles from Sawgrass Bay, and it’s accessible via Florida state Route 429, which collects a toll. The community is heavily reliant on cars, and there are no public transportation services that stop in the neighborhood.
