Country living in Frankenlust Township near Bay City
Just outside Bay City, farmland makes up most of Frankenlust Township. Amid the rows of corn and soybean, there are also local golf courses, two colleges and a handful of locals businesses. While the township has its own government, homes receive Bay City addresses, and it’s common for Frankenlust shoppers and diners to drive 10 minutes north to Bay City or 15 minutes south to Saginaw.
Houses on farm parcels and resort condos
Homes around the township often come with expansive views of farmland. “Farmers will take some land and parcel it off for people to build houses,” says Adam Hansen, a Realtor with Modern Realty who sells homes in the area. Lots generally range from a quarter to a full acre, and common housing styles include ranch-style, split-level and New Traditional, with prices ranging from $145,000 to $450,000. Condos at the Bay Valley Resort start at $40,000 for one-bedroom attached units and $430,000 for detached ranch-style condos.
Frankenlust Township Park and two golf courses
Over a mile of nature trails and boardwalks surround the fishing pond at Frankenlust Township Park. Visitors can cast a line from the fishing pier, relax on a bench or attach a hammock to the designated poles. The park is right next to Bay Valley Resort, which has a public 18-hole golf course. Nearby Bay City Country Club also has an 18-hole course open to the public, with membership discounts. “It was a private country club for years, then it was purchased and turned into a public golf course,” Hansen says. “It went downhill, but was purchased again and changed back to the country club. They’ve been making really good changes ever since.” Recent upgrades include the addition of golf simulators and a sports bar and grill.
High school connections to Delta College and SVSU
Most students attend Mackensen Elementary School, which receives a B grade from Niche. They’ll go on to Bay City Western Middle School and Bay City Western High School, both rated B and both more than 10 miles away in the same building in Auburn. High schoolers have the opportunity to earn college credits through Delta (Community) College, located in the township, and nearby Saginaw Valley State University. Students can save money on tuition by attending classes for three years at the community college before finishing their fourth year at SVSU, where they’ll receive their degrees.
A Mexican restaurant and jerky store on Westside Saginaw Road
While most residents head to the restaurants and big-box retailers in Bay City, there are also a few options in the township, mostly on Westside Saginaw Road. Casa Flores Taqueria & More serves Mexican food, and there are several fast-food restaurants. The Jerky Outlet, one of several locations across the state, sells homemade jerky.
Access to I-75 and MI-84
Interstate 75 cuts through the township and runs south to Saginaw. Commuters take Westside Saginaw Road (MI-84) to get to Bay City. The township is also about 10 miles from MBS International Airport, which offers flights to Chicago and Detroit.
