Little League, stunning views and an artificial lake
Vallejo Mill Historical Park rests at the western edge of Canyon Heights-Vallejo Mills. It commemorates where one of the two Vallejo Flour Mills once stood. The open grassy space has a walking trail, and parts of the stone aqueduct that carried water from Alameda Creek to the mill can be seen on Niles Canyon Road. Vallejo Mill Park is home to the Niles-Centerville Little League. Located next to the elementary school, this green space consists of four baseball diamonds of varying sizes. The Vargas Plateau Regional Park makes up much of the neighborhood. This expansive space in the Fremont Hills has six miles of multi-use trails, offering stunning panoramic views from 1,000 feet above the canyon floor. Central Park is just south of the neighborhood. This 450-acre space was developed in the 1960s along with Lake Elizabeth, a shallow 83-acre artificial lake. Repeatedly voted the best park in the Tri-City area, people come to walk or bike the 2-mile trail, take their pups to the dog park or shred at the Fremont Skate Park. There are also four playgrounds, a golf course, a water park and various athletic fields and courts.Nearby, Niles operates several museums. Opened in 1938, the Solon Brothers Gas Station and Diner has been converted from a vintage fueling spot into a community history museum. Now called the Niles Flying A, its social club holds regular cookouts and car shows. The Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum pays homage to the groundbreaking Essanay Film Company, an early studio that produced five of Charlie Chaplin’s movies in Niles. Portions of ‘The Tramp’ were filmed in Canyon Heights-Vallejo Mills on Niles Canyon Road. The museum has a 100-seat nickelodeon theater and hosts the popular Chaplin Days each May. The festival began in 1979 and features three days of train rides, walking tours and a Chaplin look-alike contest.

A commercial corridor lines Niles Boulevard, 1.5 miles away, for shopping and dining options. Part of Niles’ historic downtown, the corridor holds antique shops, locally owned eateries and record stores. Homes range from $950,000 to $2 million. “A lot of the homes have bigger than average lots compared to other Fremont subdivisions. A home recently went up for sale and received ten offers in the first few days. The interest rates are improving, and that’s helping things sell,” says Pierce. Children here attend historic schools founded between 1881 and 1955. A-minus-rated Vallejo Mill Elementary School and A-rated Centerville Middle School focus on educating students academically, emotionally and socially. A-rated Washington High boasts a nearly 94% graduation rate. It was the second high school to be formed in California, and today, it teaches subjects as diverse as multimedia art, the Chinese language and business courses.Driving to Silicon Valley or biking through regional parks
There are two ways to access Canyon Heights-Vallejo Mills: Morrison Canyon Road and over the historic Stanley Bridge on Old Canyon Road. Both routes lead to the community’s gently curving tree-lined streets. Bike lanes run down Mission Boulevard, and people often bike or walk through the neighborhood to reach the multi-use trails in the Vargas Plateau Regional Park. Bus stops on Mission Boulevard make getting into downtown Fremont and Niles quick and straightforward. Major roadways like Highway 84 and Interstates 680 and 880 are just minutes away. These lead to San Francisco, Oakland and Silicon Valley, where many neighborhood residents are employed. The Washington Hospital Healthcare System lies 3 miles away, and travelers only have to go 20 miles to reach Oakland International Airport or 40 miles to San Francisco International.Diverse worship centers with multiple language options
Worship centers around Canyon Heights-Vallejo Mills are as diverse as the neighborhood itself. The Dawoodi Bohra Community of the United States represents the Bohra branch of Islam. The city is working to finalize a local hazard mitigation plan to combat adverse outcomes from natural disasters. The neighborhood also has a very low crime risk.
