Cherry-Guardino
A mix of contemporary style homes and condos
The neighborhood’s quiet, tree-lined streets feature common housing designs such as contemporary, traditional and contemporary ranch-style. The typical home features a private driveway, attached garage and ample yard space. Prices range between $1.2 million to $1.9 million. Condos and townhouses, usually contemporary in style, are another option in the neighborhood, with prices ranging from $450,000 to $1.4 million. “The Bay Area is expensive, but if you live on this side of the bay, you’re saving hundreds of thousands of dollars on a home,” says Paul LeJoy, a Realtor with Pacific Realty Partners who has lived in the Bay Area for more than two decades. “A lot of people work remotely now, so if you live here, you save all that money, and it’s not as crowded as it is on the peninsula.”Local dining in downtown Fremont
Most local dining and shopping is less than a few miles southwest in downtown Freemont, which has grocery stores, coffeehouses and eateries. Here, Philz Coffee serves drinks and pastries, while next door, Smoking Pig BBQ cooks up brisket and pulled pork. Port of Peri Peri is a Portuguese restaurant known for its roasted chicken and cassava fries. Raley’s, Trader Joe's and Safeway are the go-tos for groceries, while Fremont Hub is less than 2 miles away for retail options. This open-air mall features big-box stores like Marshalls, Old Navy and Target.Lakeside parks and nearby hiking at Vargas Plateau Regional Park
The neighborhood borders Central Park, or Lake Elizabeth Park, as the locals call it. Set on 450-plus acres, it is anchored by the 80-acre Lake Elizabeth, which is popular for fishing and paddleboarding. A 2-mile walking path surrounds the lake, and other features include a lagoon nature area, a waterpark and a 32-hole golf course. There are also playgrounds, tennis and basketball courts and softball, soccer and cricket fields. The more expansive Vargas Plateau Regional Park sits to the east. It provides more than 1,200 acres of natural landscape for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding along miles of primitive trails in the Fremont Hills. Plus, the neighborhood is about 2 miles from Alameda Creek, where people can kayak, boat or hike along the water.Public schools with a multimedia academy
Cherry-Guardino is zoned for a highly regarded public school system. “The Fremont United School District is one of the best in all of California,” Lewis says. Students on the south side of the neighborhood may attend Parkmont Elementary School, which gets an A rating from Niche, while students on the north side may attend the A-minus-rated Vallejo Mill Elementary School. Older students may attend Centerville Middle School and Washington High School, both with A ratings. The high school features a multimedia academy for students interested in pursuing careers in game, video and graphic design. The neighborhood is also home to a pair of alternative public schools. The California School for the Blind and the California School for the Deaf share a campus in Cherry-Guardino.Fremont Festival of the Arts and a summer concert series
Central Park hosts many community and holiday events throughout the year, including an annual all-inclusive Halloween Party, and a summer concert series with performances by local musicians. Other annual events take place in downtown Fremont, including the popular Fremont Festival of the Arts in August. It features two stages of live music, a kids’ play section with rides and games, and hundreds of arts and crafts booths.Next to the Fremont BART Station and Route 84
The Fremont BART Station is less than a mile away for commuting by light rail into Oakland, San Francisco and San Jose. California State Road 84, which runs along the neighborhood’s east side, goes across the water to Silicon Valley, about 20 miles away. For domestic and international flights, the San Jose Mineta International Airport is about 16 miles south.
