Ardenwood Historic Farm, just to the south, is a working farm with a blacksmith shop, an outdoor kitchen and formal gardens surrounding a historic farmhouse. Every year, families come there to pick out their pumpkins, make crafts and scramble through a corn maze. “Some folks that came as kids bring their own kids,” says Troy Horton of Dig Deep Farms, host of the event. A bit further west on the bay's shore, the 1,266-acre Coyote Hills Regional Park is a favorite for hiking, biking and birdwatching throughout an expanse of grasslands and marshlands. Community parks dot the neighborhood, including Northgate Community Park which features sports fields, a batting cage and picnic facilities. Commuters can get to work by car or leave their vehicle in a park & ride lot and hop on a company shuttle for area high-tech companies like Apple, Google and Yahoo that provide that service. Interstate 880 borders the neighborhood's west side and runs north to south, connecting to Oakland and San Jose, both about 21 miles away. State Route 84 runs along the neighborhood's southern border and crosses over San Francisco Bay via the Dumbarton Bridge. Public bus stops along Paseo Padre Parkway can take riders to the Union City BART station. Kaiser Hospital is under 6 miles away toward the center of town. San Jose Mineta International Airport sits 21 miles south, while Oakland International Airport is just over 16 miles to the north. Among the few restaurants within the neighborhood are Ping’s Bistro and Milk and Honey Café, known for its Taiwanese food and Boba Milk Tea. Happy Lamb Hot Pot is nearby and known for its rich broth, and Din Ding Dumpling House serves dumplings and noodle dishes. Whole Foods is about 4 miles away. A Safeway, Target, Michaels, Marshall’s and PetSmart are about 4 miles away in the Fremont Hub Shopping Center.
