Midcentury homes, duplexes and condos
Homes on McLane’s west side are mostly minimal traditional bungalows from the 1940s and ‘50s, priced from $170,000 to $470,0000. On the east side, new traditional homes were built between 1980 and 2010, though there's some new construction, as well; some have partial stone exteriors or Spanish Revival-inspired elements like barrel tile roofing, and prices tend to range from $300,000 to $750,000. Throughout the neighborhood, lot sizes tend to be smaller than a quarter-acre, and flat, grassy front lawns are often shaded by a diverse mix of foliage, including palm, sycamore, and oak trees.A few condo complexes dotted around the neighborhood offer two-bedroom units for between $120,000 and $250,000. Multi-family properties are also scattered on the west side, including between 2 and five rentable units and ranging in price from $300,000 to $725,000.
Youth and adult sports leagues at Granite Park
The Granite Park Sports Complex is the home base for youth and adult leagues for baseball, soccer and softball. East of the airport, there are public golf courses like the 18-hole Airways Golf Course and the family-owned Hank’s Swank Par 3 Golf Course and Driving Range. Smaller parks are scattered here and there, including Einstein Park, where locals can take a dip in the community pool during Fresno’s intense summer heat waves or spend time by the treehouse-themed playground. Melody Park has a skate park, a shaded playground and tennis courts.Extensive athletic and career technical programs at local schools
The neighborhood’s west side is zoned for the Fresno Unified School District, which includes Birney Elementary School, rated B-minus by Niche, and the C-minus-rated Fort Miller Middle. The B-minus-rated McLane High, for which the neighborhood is named, offers career-oriented programs, including finance, media production, medical education and teaching pathways. In addition to academics, McLane High features a robust athletics department with extensive on-campus facilities, including a state-of-the-art football stadium, an Olympic-sized pool and eight tennis courts. The neighborhood’s east side is zoned for the highly sought-after Clovis Unified School District. Here, Hirayama Elementary opened in August 2024 and is currently unrated by Niche. Reyburn Intermediate earns an A, while Clovis East High earns an A-minus. Clovis Unified District Schools are typically well-funded, and Clovis East High has its own extensive basketball, tennis and swimming complexes.
Fresno Art Museum Fundraisers and holiday events at the Discovery Center
The nearby Fresno Discovery Center, an interactive science museum for local kids, hosts annual Easter egg hunts and Halloween events. In May, the center puts on their Wanderstar, an adults-only event where attendees can explore the stars through high-power telescopes.Taking the Fresno Area Express bus
McLane is situated between State Route 168 and 41, the latter of which can take residents 3 miles south to downtown. The Fresno Area Express bus system has several routes serving the McLane area, including the 34 and 38 Lines, which run north-south and make stops downtown and at the Kaiser Permanente Fresno Medical Center, 6 miles north. The Fresno Yosemite International Airport, which has one concourse, is located at the center of the neighborhood and contributes to area noise pollution. Fresno overall is known to have poor air quality.Sam’s Italian Deli and other family-owned eateries
Local restaurants are found throughout the community, including Sam's Italian Deli and Market, a staple for Italian sandwiches and charcuterie since 1980. Mama’s Asian Noodle House on the west side is known for their authentic Lao and Thai food. “It’s family-owned and kind of quiet,” Jackson says of Mama's. “It doesn’t get as much traction as it should, in my opinion.” Set along McLane’s northern edge, the Club One Casino is a popular nightlife spot, and while the New Manchester Mall is mostly vacant these days, it still houses a dd’s Discounts and the Regal Manchester Cinema. Nearby grocery stores include Walmart and the local City Foods Market.
