In the suburban Fridley neighborhood, Bonny, in northern Minneapolis, family-friendly recreation and public education are within walking distance of many homes. When we drove around, there were kids playing in the streets and the surrounding parks." The neighborhood's mid-century single-family homes add to the classic suburban vibes, as do the stores and restaurants conveniently located less than a mile from many doorsteps. With a crime rate on par with the national average and downtown Minneapolis 9 miles away, the neighborhood provides comfort while retaining access to the big city.

Mid-century ranch-style homes and Cape Cods
Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh streets, which all run north and south through the neighborhood, are mostly residential. The most common houses include three-to-five-bedroom ranch-style homes and Cape Cods built in the 1950s and '60s on leafy, quarter-acre lots with neighboring fences to the sides and back. "The homes in this neighborhood have significantly bigger yards than what you get in newer developments," says Larsen. "My clients were all about family. They wanted a big yard where they could have barbecues and spend quality time together. And that's exactly what they got." Built-in garages are very common as well, though some are detached. Houses range from around 1,000 to 2,600 square feet and sell between $250,000 and $375,000.

A short walk to Fridley Middle and Fridley High
Fridley Public Schools serves students, starting at Stevenson Elementary School, graded a C by Niche. Fridley Middle and Fridley High are in the northeast section of the neighborhood and next to each other. The middle school earns a C grade, while the high school gets a B-minus. Fridley High's 850 students can participate in three International Baccalaureate Programmes: Middle Years, Diploma, and Career-related. While not every student must graduate with an IB degree, the school's core curriculum requires each student to take IB courses.
Fridley Senior High School serves students in grades 9-12.

Sports and sledding at Commons Park
Residents live no more than a mile from recreation facilities. For some, they're just across the street, including Commons Park, the most popular park in the city, according to Fridley's website. The 23-acre park is next to Fridley Middle School and is frequented by kids looking to enjoy the playground and play sports through the Fridley Youth Sports Association. Kids also flock to the park when it snows to sled down the hills, a defining feature, along with the 130-foot water tower. The Fridley Community Center sits just across the street from Commons Park next to Fridley High School. It has an active senior center and a gymnasium and offers the Tiger Club childcare program. Less than 2 miles away, Moore Lake Park has volleyball courts, a fishing pier, a community building and a picnic pavilion, available for rent to celebrate a special occasion.

Fridley Market, on 57th Avenue Northeast, is also less than a mile away from homes in Bonny. The shopping plaza has a Cub Foods grocery store and a few smaller retailers. This area has several restaurants, including national fast-food chains and local favorites. For Mexican food, there's Zantigo, a Minneapolis metro chain. Teppanyaki Grill & Supreme Buffet is another community staple, featuring a giant chocolate fountain, included with its all-you-can-eat Asian and American food. There are several more big box retailers and restaurants about 1 mile south along Central Avenue Northeast, giving residents plenty of options for shopping and dining out.
Fridley Market shopping area is located at Highway 694 and University Avenue.

A 9-mile drive or 20-minute train ride to Central Minneapolis
Bonny is primarily car-dependent with direct access to Minnesota Highway 65, which runs about 9 miles south to Central Minneapolis, and Interstate 694, which can be taken east and west throughout Minneapolis' northern suburbs. Downtown commuters can also park and ride Metro Transit's Northstar Line for a 20-minute trip into the city
