Right off Interstate 70 lies Copper Mountain, a ski resort and neighborhood containing condos and luxury mountain homes. The Tenmile Range mountains dominate most of the landscape, eventually extending to link with the Rockies. “The mountain is a ski resort first, with a village that built up as the resort grew,” says Lynn Ellen Vergis, local broker at HomeSmart. The village is planned in three sections – East, Center and West – with the main ski lift in the center. Chair lifts are within walking distance of every home, and people can access advanced terrain from East Village, intermediate runs from Center Village and beginner slopes from West Village. “Copper is a highly sought-out ski mountain for people from Denver, because it’s great skiing and – though there’s nothing quick about I-70 – you can drive up, ski and drive home,” Vergis says.

Skiing, snowboarding, biking and golfing
Copper Mountain contains over 2,500 acres of terrain for skiers and snowboarders. At its indoor Woodward Copper Barn, daredevils practice flips and jumps, landing safely in a foam pit. The barn “is a real draw for snowboarders to train,” Vergis says. Meanwhile, runners and cyclists have their own playgrounds. The Ten Mile Canyon National Recreation Trail stretches 14 miles between Copper Mountain and Vail, and the Tenmile RecPath goes for nearly 12 miles, connecting Copper Mountain to Frisco. Both trails are paved with some hills, providing moderately challenging workouts. Copper Creek Golf Course, located in East Village, has an 18-hole playing area with views of the Ten Mile Range. Hole 14 sits at an elevation of 9,863 ft., the highest tee box in the United States. Copper Mountain ski resort uses the Ikon Pass, which skiers and snowboarders can also use to access the lifts at Arapahoe Basin 24 miles away.

Shopping and dining in Center Village
Center Village is Copper Mountain’s hub for shopping and dining. Sauce on Copper, an upscale regional chain, serves cocktails and Italian specialties. But there’s no need to interrupt a day of skiing for lunch at the mountain base: restaurants at the top of the chairlifts serve lunch as well. After the last run of the day, locals can unwind at après-ski hangout spots like Mulligans Irish Pub for a well-deserved beer. McCoy’s Mountain Market supplies the area with groceries and Snowbridge Square Liquor sells booze. Outdoor apparel and athletic equipment shops sell their goods in Center Village, and more shopping awaits in Frisco, such as Walmart and Whole Foods, plus boutiques, cafés and art galleries in Old Town.

East, West and Center Village homes
Neighborhood streets are well-lit and have bike lanes. Many residences have views of the slopes and have the convenient ski-in, ski-out capability. The flood risk is severe where homes are clustered, especially by West Tenmile Creek, which stretches through all three villages. “The West Village includes a gated community called Lewis Ranch, which has high-end, luxury, custom homes,” Vergis says, while East Village has “a very small, limited single-family home community and townhome structures around a portion of the golf course.” Single-family homes range from $3 million for an East Village location on the fairway to nearly $6 million for West Village slopeside property. They go quickly, sometimes spending just one day on the market. These luxury mountain homes tend to have timber and stone exteriors with chimneys. Center Village has mostly condos. Copper Mountain condos may be a contemporary 1970s build or a New Traditional 21st-century construction. Condos range from about $500,000 for a one-bedroom to just over $1 million for a three-bedroom. HOA and property association fees vary between condo complexes and subdivisions.
