Coronado Ranch
A-rated schools zoned for Coronado Ranch
Coronado Ranch is part of the Higley Unified School District, rated A-minus overall by Niche. Local kids can start at the A-rated Coronado Elementary, located within the neighborhood. “They have a Mandarin immersion program that attracts a lot of families,” Kleinman says. At A-minus-rated Robert C. Cooley Middle, students can continue the Mandarin Dual Language program, which splits students’ days evenly between English and Mandarin language instruction. Williams Field High is also rated A-minus, and students here can choose from over 40 dual-enrollment courses to receive college credit at Chandler-Gilbert Community College and Scottsdale Community College. “We have open enrollment, so there are a lot of options for high school,” says Kleinman.Sports and play at nearby parks
There’s a chain of three parks in Coronado Ranch’s west—Shuhandler Park, Coronado Ranch Park and Red Park, all connected by a paved trail network that weaves through the neighborhood’s subdivisions. The parks span about 32 acres of grassy, tree-lined playing fields that include basketball courts, a soccer pitch and shaded playgrounds that offer protection from the sun. There’s also a splash pad, which is especially popular during the summer when temperatures here regularly top 100 degrees. The 272-acre Gilbert Regional Park is about a half-mile south, where folks play sports like tennis, pickleball and sand volleyball. David Marsh, a Realtor with Exp Realty who has lived in Chandler for 24 years, says “There’s ramadas, a playground for kids and fishing lakes stocked with largemouth bass. There are lots of events too—Gilbert Days festival, outdoor music and food festivals.” Characterized by its palm-lined fairways with sweeping desert mountain views, the 18-hole course at Power Ranch Golf Club is about a mile east.Annual events in Gilbert and Chandler
Community events are regularly held at Gilbert Regional Park, about a half-mile south of Coronado Ranch. One of the biggest is the two-day Gilbert Days festival in November, where locals come to support local businesses, enjoy live entertainment and play carnival games; there’s also a parade with decorated floats and performers that march through downtown, showing off Gilbert’s community pride. Residents are also invited to events in nearby Chandler, like the Ostrich Festival every March at Tumbleweed Park, 7 miles west. At the festival, residents can check out live ostriches, purchase ostrich-themed souvenirs and get a thrill on gravity-defying carnival rides while music acts perform on the main stage.Shopping plazas around Coronado Ranch
“There’s groceries and stores everywhere; it’s all very close,” Marsh says. Coronado Ranch is bordered southwest by two shopping plazas, Higley Pavilion and Higley Village Shops. At the former, there’s Lowe’s Home Improvement and Dollar Tree, as well as small businesses and a few restaurants, including Mugsy Dogs, a retro, 50s-style restaurant with gourmet hotdogs and burgers. For a cup of joe, there’s Scooter’s Coffee, and next door, Mexican fast-food at Filiberto’s. Marsh recommends Cold Beers and Cheeseburgers, a popular sports bar and restaurant that’s exactly what it sounds like—cold beers and cheeseburgers in a relaxed, social setting. Folks can pick up groceries at Fry’s, about 2 miles north along Higley Road, where there are also fast-food chains, medical offices and EoS Fitness.New traditional homes with palm trees
Set closely together amid flourishes of desert flora and the occasional palm tree, Coronado Ranch’s homes are mostly 21st-century new traditional, some with Spanish Revival-style details like terracotta-tiled roofs, exterior archways and tan stucco finishes. These three-to-five-bedroom homes have 1,500 to 4,000 square feet of living space and lots of 7,000 to 10,000 square feet; all have attached garages, while some have covered patios and private pools. “There's a fairly decent mix of desert landscaping versus grass, and a lot of homes have transitioned to artificial turf,” Kleinman says. Prices range from $400,000 to $800,000, depending on a home’s size and features. Residents also pay monthly homeowners association dues of $60, which go toward community maintenance.Getting around the Greater Phoenix area
Route 202 is about 4 miles northwest, leading 32 miles northwest to Phoenix and looping around the Greater Phoenix Area. Downtown Gilbert’s 10 miles northwest via Higley Road, the neighborhood’s main thoroughfare. Locals typically drive to get around, but Coronado Ranch also has sidewalk-lined streets and bike lanes. For medical needs, Dignity Health Mercy Gilbert Medical Center is 3 miles northwest. Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, a regional airport, is 6 miles northeast, and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is 28 miles northwest.
