Gilberts is a fast-growing village in Chicago's far western suburbs
The village of Gilberts merges rural tranquility and scenic suburban living about 45 miles outside downtown Chicago. “One thing I’ve heard is that Gilberts is the quiet side of Randall Road,” says Riley Lynch, Gilberts’ assistant village administrator. “There’s a lot of open space and a lot of development, so it’s growing tremendously.” Up until the 1980s, Gilberts’ population was around 400. By the early 2000s, more housing development arrived and the population spiked to 8,000. As the 5-square-mile village continues to grow, locals maintain a strong sense of community. “This is a very neighborly community. That’s what I love about it,” says Dorthy Pastorelli, a Realtor with Compass who has lived in Gilberts since 2012. “Everyone knows the local president and the police chief. You just get that small-town feel where everyone looks out for each other. We also do a lot of events that keep the community together.” Nearby business parks along Randall Road are full of manufacturing plants, and Pastorelli says many locals make the hourlong commute to downtown Chicago.
