Suburb of St. Louis and Edwardsville
When it comes to St. Louis suburbs, some folks only think to look west, but Glen Carbon, just 14 miles northeast of Downtown St. Louis, offers great parks and schools, and lower home prices without compromising on quality of life. “This community known for its very highly ranked Edwardsville District 7 schools,” says Jim Reppell local Realtor with RE/MAX who has been working in real estate for over 30 years. “Glen Carbon is a sister city to Edwardsville, and the area is seeing extreme growth for high end apartments and homes.” Glen Carbon was first incorporated in 1892 and has several historical buildings as well as a covered bridge which acts as a focal point for the village. It was first built in 1934 and subsequently rebuilt several times over the years.
From old mines to historic buildings, Glen Carbon’s history is everywhere.

Lot sizes remind of a Midwestern feel
The residential streets of Glen Carbon look similar to many other St. Louis suburbs. Among the older construction in the neighborhood, mid-to-late 20th century Colonial Revival and ranch-style houses are common, with floor plans of up to 2,300 square feet and prices under $300,000. Sparsely populated trees provide shade and privacy, but overall, the area maintains a spread-out, open feeling that maintains the Midwestern feel. There are also plenty of new builds, as more and more homebuyers are discovering the advantages of living in the Metro East area of St. Louis, and singling Glen Carbon out as their destination of choice. Newer homes are primarily Traditional-style and offer 1,500 to 3,000 square feet for between $250,000 and $500,000.
Symmetry shines in the colonial revival homes scattered across Glen Carbon.
