Glenburn offers suburban homes just miles from Scranton

Glenburn is a quaint suburban township and a bedroom community of Scranton. The town’s land market creates many opportunities for buyers to build custom homes, and the area is zoned for the highly ranked Abington Heights School District. The Lackawanna Trail runs through the town center, so locals can quickly reach nearby business hubs in Clarks Summit and Scranton in minutes.

Midcentury properties and custom home lots

The streets are lined with Colonial Revivals and midcentury ranch-style homes. There is a significant market for land in the area, which is often purchased for custom home construction. “There are beautiful subdivisions with modest quarter-acre lots usually,” says Linda Martinez, a real estate salesperson with Keller Williams with over 17 years of experience. “Custom homes are popular here, too.”

Local restaurants line Lackawanna Trail

Most of the town’s businesses are along Lackawanna Trail. For brunch, residents can order scrambled eggs with French toast and coffee at Glenburn Grill & Bakery. “The town itself doesn’t have too many parks or businesses; Clarks Summit and Scranton are more popular for shopping, dining and events,” says Martinez. In Clarks Summit to the south, there is a Gerrity’s for groceries and restaurants like State Street Grill offering craft cocktails with an upscale surf-and-turf menu. Folks can also head to the Viewmont Mall in Scranton to shop at retailers like JCPenney and Old Navy.

The growing trolley trail and Lackawanna State Park

The Countryside Conservancy Trolley Trail is a paved pathway running through Glenburn. It was built from the lines of the defunct Northern Electric Trolley system, and trail extensions are underway to stretch the path from Clarks Summit to Lake Winola. Lackawanna State Park stretches over 1,400 acres just east of Glenburn, with trails for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding, and Lackawanna Lake, where anglers can catch channel catfish and trout. The private Glen Oak Country Club offers an 18-hole championship golf course, a pool, a clubhouse and banquet halls that can be reserved.

Kids are served by Abington Heights School District

Abington Heights School District serves Glenburn for education and is ranked by Niche as the best school district in the Scranton area. Elementary students can attend Waverly School with an A-rating from Niche. Abington Heights Middle School and Abington Heights High School both get A-minus ratings.

Lackawanna Trail leads to Scranton in under half an hour

Scranton is a 10-mile drive south along Lackawanna Trail, so commutes take roughly 20 minutes. The Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport is a 21-mile drive south and offers domestic flights.
