An area known for Glendale's largest historic district

Rossmoyne is a sought-after Glendale neighborhood notable for historical residential architecture. Its historic district is the largest in the city of Glendale. In the early 1920s, Rossmoyne was designed as a garden suburb with a park-like setting. "It is one of the oldest and most serene neighborhoods in Glendale," says Sheida Rezazadeh, a broker associate with Keller Williams Real Estate Services.

Period revival architecture and condos in Rossmoyne

Among Rossmoyne's period revival architectural styles is Tudor Revival, a nod to the English, with ornamental gables and brick exteriors; Spanish Colonial Revival, known for decorative terracotta and tile work; and French-inspired designs, with multipane windows and chimneys. Supply of single-family homes here is often low, though recent sales have ranged from $1.3 million to $3.3 million. Condominiums from the 1950s to the 2000s sell in the $600,000s to the $900,000s and typically have monthly homeowners association fees in the $300s.

Nibley Park is close by, Verdugo Park is to the northeast

Nibley Park in the historic district has a playground and basketball and tennis courts. There's a lot of greenery and scenery in Rossmoyne, from palm trees and pines to hillside terrain and Verdugo Mountain views. "The serenity naturally attracts wildlife, making it common to spot deer and various birds throughout the area. Deer stroll along the streets and across front lawns while falcons soar overhead," Rezazadeh says. Verdugo Park, about a mile to the northeast, has a playground, a skate park, picnicking areas, basketball courts and a horseshoe pit. Additionally, Rossmoyne is about 4 miles from the north end of LA's Griffith Park, one of the country's largest city parks with wilderness areas. Griffith's highlights include the Los Angeles Zoo, the Los Angeles Equestrian Center and the Griffith Park Observatory.

White Elementary, Wilson Middle and Glendale High have Armenian language immersion

Public schools include R.D. White Elementary School, which earns a B-plus grade from Niche. Woodrow Wilson Middle School receives a B, and Glendale High School has a B-plus. The three schools participate in Glendale Unified School District's Armenian Language Immersion Program. The district also has a variety of magnet schools.

HOA and Glendale events bring the community out

The Rossmoyne/Mountain HOA has hosted events like Tacos at Twilight, a social gathering in October, and a National Night Out picnic and movie at Nibley Park in August. Glendale's larger events include April's Spring Eggstravaganza, the Verdugo Mountains 10K Trail Run & Hike in May, the Brand Summer Music Series, Cruise Night in July showcasing exotic cars and the Armenian American Museum Festival in October. The HOA also facilitates a neighborhood watch program with a block captain network in communication with the Glendale Police Department. The CAP Index crime score in Rossmoyne is 2 out of 10, compared to the national average of 4.

Glenoaks for shopping; more retail and malls within miles

Grand Foods Market on East Glenoaks Boulevard is nearby for grocery staples and Middle Eastern deli items. A few blocks away is gastropub We're Pouring, which has dozens of craft beers, California wines, sliders and shareables. There's a Trader Joe's close by as well. The Glendale Gateway Certified Farmers Market, held a couple of miles away on Brand Boulevard, is on Tuesdays year-round. Popular shopping areas within a few miles of Rossmoyne include Kenneth Village, known for locally owned shops and restaurants; The Americana at Brand, which has more than 75 stores and eateries; and the Glendale Galleria, which, with over 200 businesses, is the third-largest mall in the county.

Access to Glenoaks Boulevard and several freeways

Though many streets have sidewalks, some do not, or they are only on one side. Short or winding streets and a lack of through traffic make Rossmoyne fairly walkable. Bus stops are around the neighborhood's periphery rather than on interior streets. Rossmoyne is north of Glenoaks Boulevard and in proximity to state Routes 2 and 134 and Interstate 5. The trip to Downtown LA is about 10 miles. The Harvey Park and Ride is the closest to Rossmoyne and has over 200 parking spaces. It's a few miles to the Glendale Transportation Center, which has access to Metrolink rail's Ventura County and Antelope Valley lines, Greyhound and Amtrak. The Hollywood Burbank Airport, about 8 miles away in the neighboring city of Burbank, offers domestic flights.
