Golden living in Golden Valley
Set against the backdrop of Peavine Mountain and the Carson Range, the northern Reno suburb of Golden Valley offers a mix of established desert and hillside homes and newly built, homeowners’ association-led developments. Realtor Chris Nevada of LPT Realty says, “Distant from the commotion of Reno and Sparks, Golden Valley is a quiet community nestled in the North Valleys between Lemmon and Panther Valleys. The North Valleys are ideal for families because of their suburban environment.” Homes and streets line the desert hills of the city. Plus, challenging trail systems are woven throughout, making this a popular destination for avid mountain bikers. As new developments continue to sprout around the community, newcomers to Reno can find a new place to live, work and play in the “Biggest Little City in the World.”
Golden Valley Park provides a getaway
Golden Valley’s natural-sounding name hints at this community’s wealth of opportunities for outdoor excursions. Nevada says, “Neighborhood parks like Panther Valley Park and Golden Valley Park are excellent for a quick recreational outing.” Golden Valley Park serves as the outdoor recreation hub of this community, featuring two baseball fields, two tennis courts and a walking trail. Equestrian aficionados can make use of the park’s horse arena, while a multi-use green space turf provides a picturesque setting for a picnic or any type of field sport. The park also offers a Junior Ranger Program that exposes children to all the regional parks and trails of Washoe County. The Sierra Sage Golf Club is another popular venue for outdoor entertainment in Golden Valley; Nevada describes it as “an 18-hole course resting at the foot of the Peavine Mountains where you can soak in the beautiful scenery as you play or enjoy a meal at the Pub at Sierra Sage.”

New developments in the hillside desert
Situated among the desert hills of Reno, Golden Valley’s development on former ranchlands led to the construction of dozens of ranch-style homes on large lots. These spacious, yet simple houses are a favorite among those who keep horses or are interested in established, small farms. Cul-de-sacs are filled with Mediterranean-style homes with attached garages and spacious yards, while hillside homes are a bit more isolated, donning multilevel terraces and surrounded by trees. Prices in Golden Valley can range from the $500,000s to the $800,000s, including new builds. Newer developments fall under homeowners’ associations, which provide specific guidelines that leave lawns and yards well-maintained, providing eye-catching aesthetics.

Home of the original Longboards
Golden Valley’s new home developments are located just around the corner from major shopping centers, making for easy, walkable shopping trips. Nevada says, “North Hills shopping center is the first thing you’ll see as you turn onto Golden Valley Road from US Highway 395. The center has a neighborhood Raley’s, the North Valley’s library and an Anytime Fitness.” Raley’s is the go-to grocery store to stock up on food and daily essentials and has an in-store pharmacy. Home of the original Longboards Beach Fired Pizza, Golden Valley also has several local hotspots for dining out. Known for its artisan pizzas, Longboards’ top pick is the Great White, but it also serves Detroit-style deep dish and calzones. Residents can also treat themselves to something sweet at Yogurt Beach — connected to Longboards — or wake up with a cup of coffee from Superstitions Java. Other shopping centers along Highway 395 include auto shops, hardware stores and other restaurants and supermarket options.
