The Quail Ridge neighborhood sign welcomes locals into the gated community.
Scenic country club living by Boynton Beach
Sanctuary in Quail Ridge is a bit of a double entendre. It’s not only a guard-gated recreational enclave for resident members but also a registered Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary with an environmental management plan that conserves and protects local plants and wildlife. “My younger sister calls it the Emerald City,” says Irene Burns, a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway Florida Realty and Quail Ridge resident herself. “The landscaping here is beautiful, and it’s not just for show. Lots of little critters love it here, too: some Florida otters, some foxes and lots of birds. We have a few too many iguanas like the rest of South Florida, but what can you do?” Quail Ridge’s leafy grounds lie just beyond southwest Boynton Beach, spanning over 600 acres. “The density is about 1.5 units per acre,” Burns says. “I’m not going to name developers, but something like that would not be built today.” Quail Ridge is home to snowbird and year-round residents. Neighbors wave to neighbors as they bike, walk, jog and golf cart around the community; some even run into family. “I live here, my daughter lives here, my ex-husband lives here, and we’re not alone. Many families have multiple members living here. People think we’re a 55-plus community, but we’re not.”

Spanish eclectic homes
Quail Ridge’s Spanish eclectic properties were built between 1974 and 1989. They display neutral earthy tones, barrel roof tiles and stucco siding. List prices start around $300,000 for condos. Villas and townhouses make up the mid-range, while single-family properties cost between $750,000 and $2.2 million. Quail Ridge properties are managed under the Quail Ridge Property Owners Association. In addition to the POA fee, homeowners must maintain a country club membership. “The POA fees cover all the landscaping of common areas outside of the golf courses, cable, the street lights, roving guards, all that,” Burns says. “Villa and condo residents pay maintenance fees for their subdivision’s common area, like the pools. In the custom homes, you take care of your property yourself.” Quail Ridge has a professional on-site horticulturalist who can help residents with landscaping needs.

Boynton Beach Community, rated C-plus, offers even more magnet programs; students can continue on the track they started in middle school or hone in on a new area, such as dance and early childhood education.

Brand new racquet sports facilities
Quail Ridge is coming up on its 50th anniversary in style. Its newly renovated racquet sports center is finally open, featuring 16 Har-Tru tennis courts, six pickleball courts and programs for players of all ages, including a junior tennis program and adult intra-club leagues. As for golf, Quail Ridge has two championship courses. “Beautiful courses, but don’t look now,” Burns says. “They’re redesigning the North Course, so things are a bit of a mess.” In the meantime, players can enjoy the pine-studded South Course, redesigned in 2019. Other club amenities include the spa and fitness center, staffed by certified personal trainers, and community in-ground pools.
