Cincinnati’s first suburb anchored by the area’s oldest active orthodox Jewish synagogue
Originally comprised of farmland, at the turn of the 20th century, the community of Golf Manor became the first suburb of the greater Cincinnati area. Incorporated in 1947, Golf Manor's heritage is showcased through its village's street names. Roads like Kellermann and Hammel Avenues, and Wiehe Road, all reflect the surnames of families that helped establish the neighborhood. Today, along these same streets, prospective buyers will find modest cottage-style homes on small plots of land (think 6,300 square feet) one right next to the other. Two local landmarks distinguish Golf Manor from the surrounding communities: the Cincinnati Reds Youth Academy and the Golf Manor Synagogue. The Academy, located less than 2 miles west from Golf Manor is a sports complex that offers seasonal baseball clinics and programming for kids throughout the year. While the Golf Manor Synagogue, on Stover Avenue, is the oldest active Orthodox Jewish synagogue in the Cincinnati area. "Pretty much anyone can go there. It’s a beautiful synagogue," says Dustin Walters, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Realty. A handsome brown-brick building with large windows and a gambrel roof, the synagogue provides Jewish services for those within Golf Manor and from neighboring communities, like Amberley.
Cape Cods, bungalows and colonials on small plots of land
Living in Golf Manor means having close neighbors and little yardwork. The community was developed by creating small, 150-foot plots with 35-to-50-foot frontages. As a result, the area is brimming with modest homes featuring mid-century design influences, like red-brick bases, side-gabled roofs and underground garages. Home styles in Golf Manor range from the smaller Cape Cods, cottages and bungalows to moderately sized colonials. Homes here have sold for between $100,000 and $300,000. Most streets in Golf Manor include sidewalks which link residents to one another, but to get to local businesses, many use a car. As for crime, the CAP Index gave Golf Manor a Crime Score of 4 out of 10, on par with the national average.

Locals look forward to meals at Demetrios V, a Greek restaurant serving American favorites. “It’s the local go-to spot for wings and burgers,” Walters says. “They do gravy cheese, which is awesome. Everything is made in-house.” Adventurists enjoy jumping aboard a 1940s-style railcar at the Cincinnati Dinner Train, which includes a three-hour, four-course meal that makes a round-trip excursion to the Cincinnati riverfront.
