Good Hope has modern homes and highly rated schools
Good Hope is a rural community filled with young professionals and families living in modern, New Traditional homes. Students are served by highly rated schools. The city comes together for youth athletics and events like Christmas in the Park. Residents can easily commute to both Birmingham and Huntsville thanks to the area’s location along Interstate 65.
What homes cost in Good Hope
The area has several homes constructed after 2020. These houses are largely New Traditional in style, often featuring a mix of brick and vinyl exteriors. Older properties are more traditional and can be ranch-style and split-level homes. Prices typically range from the lower $100,000s to the upper $300,000s. Home values are in line with the Cullman metro area average. More than 75% of residents are owners.
What community life is like
Good Hope is an active community filled with young professionals and families. The area’s median age is close to 35, and its population under 18 is above the national average. “It’s very popular among people that live in the county and people moving to the county,” says Stacey Long, a Realtor with The Journey Home Realty Group who lives in the county. People gather at the annual Christmas in the Park event, which features a new theme each year and includes food, games, crafts and photos with Santa Claus. It begins after a traditional parade down County Road 437. The Good Hope Back to School Bash is also popular, bringing water slides and other family-friendly entertainment to town. Though its environment is rural, the city has access to modern amenities. The Cullman Electric Cooperative began offering Sprout Fiber Internet to many community households in 2021, providing a reliable connection.
Where students attend school
Students are zoned for the highly rated Cullman County Schools. Four schools sit within the community’s boundaries, including Good Hope Middle School, which gets high marks individually. Area schools excel in both athletics and academics. The Good Hope High School girls basketball team reached the state championship game in 2024 and 2025, winning it in 2024.
Alabama’s CHOOSE Act of 2024 sends eligible families between $2,000 and $7,000 to put toward private school tuition. All families will be eligible before the 2027-2028 school year. Cullman Christian School, a private academy for kindergarten through 12th grade, is around 10 minutes away.
The community has three local parks
Good Hope Parks and Recreation oversees three parks:
- Good Hope Municipal Park offers ball fields and a playground.
- Hathcock Park has picnic tables and open green space.
- Good Hope Family Park & Recreational Complex provides additional sports facilities.
Residents can commute to larger cities
Thanks to its location along Interstate 65, the community has become popular with commuters, Long says. The area is roughly 45 miles from Birmingham, a drive that takes around 40 minutes outside of rush hour traffic. The same goes for Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport. Huntsville is nearly an hour away. Cullman Regional Medical Center is close to 15 minutes out.
Where Good Hope residents eat
Good Hope has a small number of places to eat. Most are fast-food restaurants, but The Sunflower Bakery & Eatery is a mom-and-pop favorite for its old-fashioned breakfast treats. “They have really good, home-cooked sausage balls,” Long says. The restaurant also sells burgers and sandwiches for lunch. Bloom Winery serves pizzas and charcuterie boards alongside its wines. It hosts live music on Fridays and Saturdays. Surrounding towns have more options, including Pop’s Place Bar BQ in Dodge City. Residents can pick up groceries and essentials at Dollar General or at Good Hope Grocery.
Things to do nearby
Outside of town, the municipal Cross Creek Golf Course has 18 holes to play. About 10 minutes away is Sportsman Lake Park, which features fishing spots, a mini golf course, a splash pad, biking and hiking trails and rentable paddle boats. A train can take visitors around the lake, providing scenic views. To the west, Smith Lake Park is a draw for its campsites, pavilions and boat launch.
