The richness of Nottingham’s community

In the old English legend of Robin Hood, the famed outlaw stole from the rich and gave to the poor who resided in Nottingham. In the Grand Prairie neighborhood of the same name, over 4,000 residents have everything they need across 2 miles of single-family homes set on streets named after Little John, Sir Guy and King Richard. “It’s pretty stable,” says Alan Schrock, a real estate agent for Keller Williams Urban Dallas. “A lot of people bought when the houses were built [in the 1980s]. People have been there for quite a while and tend to not leave the area.” With two large parks, local elementary schools and a convenient commute to Arlington’s entertainment district, Nottingham is a desirable neighborhood in the DFW Metroplex.

Traditional houses and townhomes around Johnson Creek

Homes are located within multiple subdivisions and cul-de-sacs north and south of Johnson Creek. Grassy quarter-acre lawns are properly maintained with tall trees and landscaped bushes, while many homes also have sidewalks, wooden fences and gated entrances. Traditional and townhomes are the most prominent housing styles and range from $250,000 to $450,000. Midcentury modern and ranch-style homes will have 3,000 square feet of space and cost between $500,000 and $900,000. A few apartments around the neighborhood are also available for $1,000-$3,500 a month.

Local schools in Arlington ISD

Nottingham is zoned for Arlington ISD, which earns a B-plus on Niche and is named one of the Top 10 school districts in Tarrant County. Larson Elementary is located within the neighborhood and earns a C on Niche, while Nichols Junior High has a 12-to-1 student-teacher ratio and earns a B-minus. Lamar High School offers an International Baccalaureate program and earns a B. After graduating, students have a local college option with the University of Texas at Arlington, which earns a B-plus.

Highway travel between Interstate 30 and George Bush Turnpike

The neighborhood is directly north of Interstate 30, which runs around 5 miles west to AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Field and Six Flags Over Texas in East Arlington. It’s also around 20 miles east of Fort Worth and around 15 miles west of Dallas. “It’s very centralized and very convenient,” Schrock says. “If you looked at DFW and dropped a pin, it’s at the center of the whole metroplex.” Driving 2 miles south on George Bush Turnpike leads to the 24-hour Surepoint Emergency Center, while the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport is around 10 miles north.

Parks east of West Fork Trinity River

Three parks are located just northeast of the neighborhood by the turnpike. Mike Lewis Park covers 98 acres and has a fishing pond with sports fields, bicycle paths and a playground. Good Link Park connects to C.P. Wagoner Park directly south, which features walking trails, baseball diamonds and a shaded pavilion for parties and special events.

Local restaurants and supermarkets in North Arlington

Most restaurants are clustered around major highways, including sports bars, taquerias and fast-food franchises. More restaurants and retail can be found 2 miles east in the Village at Ballpark, which consists of a couple of steakhouses and chophouses, salons and spas, medical offices, automotive shops and hotels. The closest grocery stores are around 5 miles west in North Arlington and include Kroger, Walmart and Whole Foods. The city also manages one of seven community gardens at the Community of Christ church where locals can grow and pick their own produce.

Backyard parties and special events in the neighborhood

The Nottingham Neighbors Association organizes many social events that families actively participate in throughout the year. Some seasonal celebrations include the annual Easter egg hunt, Halloween party and a Christmas decorating contest where prizes are awarded to the most festive houses in the neighborhood. There are also individual social clubs for residents of all ages.
